I started out at target as a guy just trying to move my way up as hardlines team member in 2010. I was promoted to GSA, demoted from GSA and now working as a backroom team member all in the amount of 3 years and 11 months. I was great team hero and a trainer within my first year and I liked my job. Everything was looking up at this place until they made it clear that they don’t care very much about hard working employees. We soon got a few new hardlines team members that I had to train to initiate them into the team and our team was green the whole time I was in that workcenter. I lead the zones and always made sure that we finished our job 100% before we left and on time. Sounds like everything is going the way it should right?

I work as a barista in target starbuck’s. Not only is it one of the most popular target stores where I live but the target is located in one of the wealthiest areas and its surrounded by large corporate company’s. I despise my job. Not only do I have the most rudest customers but also the most annoying customers. Taking orders for these professional mom’s that come in with there kids after their morning jog is absolutely annoying, they treat you like shit and talk to you even worse but I have to say the worst are the corporate big shots. I’ll say “Hi can I take you order” and they don’t even acknowledge me, they just start ordering their drink and don’t even look at me, They just stare off into space. To top it off my ETL is a major cunt.

They are a multi billion dollar corporation, catering not to what is best for the public, but just what anyone in the public wants so that they can make the most money. And then they’re paying the vast majority of their employees no more than $8-12 an hour?? I’m sure they could shell out at least $15 an hour for the TM’s and to be honest I think that’s a lot more worth all of the busy work this job entails solely for the purpose of “driving sales.” That’s really all this shit is; BUSY WORK. Target has no heart. It’s not about making anyone happy, it’s about making money. THE VIBE? Please. Call it what it is: upselling people shit they really don’t even need.

Okay, so I have ALOT to say about this bullshit fulfilled year at Target. I started working there when I was 16 it was my first job so I was very grateful I enjoyed the training part and the first couple of weeks but my hatred for the job started to grow. First off, the managers are just assholes! They abuse their power they act like they’re the king and queen of Scotland or something.

I’ve been working retail for some years, I started at JC Penny then I went to Wal- Mart for some time, the wife wanted to move so I ended up at Target. First thing I noticed about target is how unprofessional the ETL’s are. The gossip among the team leaders is more than any high school. My availability seemed to not matter to the ETLs, they would keep scheduling me on the days I’m not available and I would have to call in despite I told them I could not work those days far in advance. The amount of bullying that goes on from the ETLs to the TM is horrible. So far I have seen 3 TMs cry and 1 quit her job due to the amount of bullying that occurs in the work place. Also I can not take most of the ETLs serious seeing most of them at my store seem to be some 22 year old kid with no retail experience or life experience. I was actually told by an ETL that the training program is designed for someone why has never worked retail. That’s horrible, no wonder why the store lacks merchandising and neatness. Last but not least, wal mart is a far better place to work. At least you get a quarterly bonus, 60 cent raises (at target I only get 7 cent raises) volunteered overtime during the holidays, more full time employees, and last but not least a far superior management team.. I am new to this blog, but I am glad to have found this place. I will update with more bad stores from the horrible place we call Target.

In Latin means: “Save yourself from Target!” Lol Today I came into work like any other day, but dressed in casual clothes and 45 minutes late. I go to my locker to get my jacket and phone charger and start to walk out the door. Then I see a TL, they say “hey what’s up? aren’t you on the schedule today?” I simply replied “Yes, you are correct”. And walked out the door. I feel so liberated!

I had applied there when the store in my area first opened and i never got a call, so i applied again when i noticed they were hiring, and i got a call right away, and in the interview was told it would be full time ours and everything, so i left my other good paying job for a new experience in something i thought i would like more. Boy was i wrong, first in training, they never showed us the employee entrance which is hidden from guests outside the building, and of course my first shift was 5 HOURS after they ended our training class, and i was late due to no one showing us the entrance. so then after about 2 weeks of working there, no one knew my name. Literally, standing there, and someone was looking at the clip board with the break schedule on it and they said hey its this persons break, and everyone else was “who’s that”. So disappointing. Now fast forward to now, i am still there but i was told i would be going down to part time hours, so i got my old job back and was going to do both places, so when they got me to update my availability, they flipped because i was only going to be able to go to part time hours and they looked me in the face and said the managers would have to have a meeting together to discuss if they really want me there or not or if they could get something better. like who does that. Now its sad, i have been calling in sick my past few shifts because i feel so sickened to be there. it took everything i had not to tell the manager who said that to me off.

Who else has STL problems? I’ve been working at Target for a while now and Ive worked my way from a cashier to a Senior TL. I know Target inside and out, and plenty of things I shouldn’t know. Recently we got a new store manager. The Worst thing that has happened to this store. She has no idea how to run and store, shes a complete bitch, and has cause team morale to drop drastically. We were never a well running store whatsoever, we were somewhat of a dysfunctional family. We did what needed to be done it just took more effort than it should have. Now my store is a war zone and every man for himself. All because of our store manager. She unfairly targets quite a few team members and no one knows why. It’s the hard working ones who get shit done, but they don’t flow too well with the politics. It’s not like it’s the lazy TMs. Our ETLs are so terrified of this woman and losing their jobs they’ll do whatever she wants even when they know it’s wrong. I thought I was on decent terms with my ETL until he intentionally set me up because she doesn’t like me. But the one thing I’ve learned from working at Target is document everything and cover your own ass first. It all fell back on him. Needless to say the tension in my store is so thick you can cut it with a knife. I should call the hotline on all of them.

The target I worked for was an embarrassment to the workforce in my opinion. Instead of seeing the potential in the hardworkers in their faces they just chose their friends in the company to give GSTL positions to. It was sad, there was one chick who was such a messy person in guest service, and in food ave and a HUGE COMPLAINER. Yet she was chosen to be the next GSTL for the frontlanes and she could barely handle Guest Service without hitting the additional cashier’s button atleast 5 times in a 4 hour shift. But she was a new GSTL’s friend in the company so she got a shot, did horribly but they kept her. I was lost at the decision since she got so many complaints about her and everyone agreed she was scattered brained and MESSY. I’m not even complaining they should have given me a shot, there were PLENTY of other mentally capable candidates who would have excelled past the vet GSTL’s but since they weren’t in the small circle they were over looked. Target 0637 as a former insider looking back in they could be DOOMED!

Just saw the good news tonight. 450 workers laid off at corporate and 700 jobs left unfillled at the big tower on Nicollette Avenue. Of course I had already heard about the recent no lube ram job of the part timers regarding their health insurance and I was not surprised. Target is now as big a douche as Walmart when it comes to shifting business costs onto the taxpayer. One more tidbit. Target outsourced its IT to India several years ago. A logical cost cutting move that has apparently paid great dividends unless you were a customer using your credit card at one of it’s stores. Target..can’t disappear fast enough for me.
