Worse company I have ever worked for!
I’ve been working retail for some years, I started at JC Penny then I went to Wal- Mart for some time, the wife wanted to move so I ended up at Target. First thing I noticed about target is how unprofessional the ETL’s are. The gossip among the team leaders is more than any high school. My availability seemed to not matter to the ETLs, they would keep scheduling me on the days I’m not available and I would have to call in despite I told them I could not work those days far in advance. The amount of bullying that goes on from the ETLs to the TM is horrible. So far I have seen 3 TMs cry and 1 quit her job due to the amount of bullying that occurs in the work place. Also I can not take most of the ETLs serious seeing most of them at my store seem to be some 22 year old kid with no retail experience or life experience. I was actually told by an ETL that the training program is designed for someone why has never worked retail. That’s horrible, no wonder why the store lacks merchandising and neatness. Last but not least, wal mart is a far better place to work. At least you get a quarterly bonus, 60 cent raises (at target I only get 7 cent raises) volunteered overtime during the holidays, more full time employees, and last but not least a far superior management team.. I am new to this blog, but I am glad to have found this place. I will update with more bad stores from the horrible place we call Target.

Can someone please explain to me what drives someone to stick with retail? Not just Target, but any retail store. I worked at Target for about 2-3 months only because I needed a job in-between jobs so to speak, it sucked dick. I can't imagine any position at any retail store would be fulfilling in any possible way.
I know for me it's because I'm not qualified to do anything else beyond entry-level gigs. Planning on going back to school this summer so I can kiss Target (and retail in general) goodbye.
I dunno, probably because many of those people who stick with retail aren't qualified to do shit other than stock shelves, hang clothes, put shoes in a box, and press buttons on a cash register. One of my Team Leads was stuck at Target, and had been there for almost 30 years. It was sad because she had started at a younger age, when women weren't really successful in the working world just yet. She started at Target with the management promising her promotions as the store got bigger. But...that never happened. They hired on younger people, while they still held the carrot on a stick in front of her face for years.
Finally, she was so exhausted that she could hardly work some days due to back pain, and aging issues in general. It was sad. I don't get sad for Target employees often, but this woman busted her ass because she was so afraid of Target firing her before she retired so that they could bail on some of her benefits. She worked herself nearly to death...and then her husband died. Target hardly allotted her any time off, since she was the only Apparel TL. When she came back, she was miserable and could hardly think. I was her back-up, so I did all of her work for her for about a year before she just couldn't take the pressure anymore.
One day, she was crying in the back room and I approached her about it. She was sad because of how much of her life she had wasted being at Target, never being appreciated by management. They all treated her as some crazy old lady, patronizing her, threatening her job, etc. because they knew she had no college education, and no other options for a job. She was in her 60's, and she knew she couldn't apply anywhere else. She told me that the only reason she had stayed at Target for so long was because her husband had suffered a stroke and lost his job because of it. His insurance was dropped, and so she had to keep working in order to keep them insured.
After he died, she admitted that she was partly relieved, because it meant she could finally leave Target and retire. It's sad when a woman is relieved by her husband's death so that she can get out of a shitty job. Target is awful. I joke around a lot and am sarcastic as fuck, but this story gets me. :/
so you're saying, walmart is better than target now? lol, target's been having stock issues up here. Just can't seem to get shelves in a lot of their stores filled up. Since target sells simiulac baby formula, anyone get told how to process simulac cheques? *is curious*
