    Ohh Target

    Well I no longer work for target after several years and I am glad to have left. Like many of you I have experienced incompetence from the ETL staff and the clueless mentality of the management staff in general.

    My first several years working for Target was pretty good I started off as a regular team member and i ended up working up to a TL which was in hindsight a mistake. They place unrealistic expectations upon the TL’s and they are the true workhorses of the store. There were countless times when only TL’s were scheduled on the floor to complete tasks, projects, and provide guest service due to “hours being tight” . ETL’s would walk the floor knowing that the sales floor was light but still give out more tasks to complete. They would constantly say to “delegate to your team” but there was no team scheduled to delegate to. Also don’t forget the pointless business walks, contribution forms, coachings, corrective actions, and leadership statuses they request from you as well.

    They will create a bunch of crazy schedules with new hires with ZERO training

    Target Jokes

    Does anyone know of any Target jokes? It wa sinteresting when they gave me a manager shirt for getting the most red cards. Yet, they fired me for such petty BS. I could not wait to get out. I have one. How many Team Leaders does it take to screw in a light bulb? None, because they do not know their head from their asses. Why do I say that? Well peons like you and I do all the hard work and they get all the credit.

    This is the worst job I ever Had!!!

    Well, after 4 months with target i called it quits tonight! Yay. I was doing okay and wasn’t expecting to quit tonight. I was a cart attendant and had to work with the store ETL who was closing LOD tonight. We close at 10pm it was around 9:45  and I finishing up in the lot (moving carts) and i get a call over my walkie, it was the LOD (who I never really liked because he/she gets paid a six figure salary to sit on his/her ass and talk all day while the rest of the store is  working their ass off). I come in the store and the LOD calls again. Usually I don’t work on the register pass 9:30 as this allow me some time to finish my daily duties. ( this particular ETL is never at the store he/she only comes in when he/she is not on vacation.)( 6 vacations in a 4 month period?! Really!!!) I get called again by this LOD as i am walking to the guest service counter (at which point I say, “I really have work to do”, out loud. Nevertheless I get on a register for about 10mins. I leave when my line is empty to finish getting carts. I had a lot of carts to move and I was 10 o’clock so it took me about 16 or so minutes. The LOD had already locked  the doors and i called to be let in (a cashier  let me in, one of the hard working employees) I start working on cleaning up the front end when the GSTL calls me in his office to talk, we sit down and here comes the LOD into the office. He/She starts going off about me being disrespectful and not listening to Him/Her (he actually said I am suppossed to do what ever he says, like I’m some kind of loyal dog.) At this point I am heated but I keep my composure and listen to what He/She has to say. He/She then brings up the comment i said out loud(I really have work to do) earlier ( I’m like, how did he know i said that and he/she was like 100 ft away). At this point i just didn’t care and was really ready to go. We leave the room and I continue my work, until I realized I really hated this job and the low hours/wages(Cart Attendants are the stores slaves anyway). I walked up to the LOD and gave Him/Her my namebadge and my walkie and left. Thank GOD Any one considering working at target DON’T unless you like being taken advantage of by their No payroll having asses!! I mean I worked for a local grocery store that gave WAY more hours than Target. (That “we don’t have the payroll to cover more hours” excuse, is just a load of horse SHIT!) OK thats out of my system to those that still work at target, STAY STRONG!! I know your situation is less than optimal but know their will be something better that comes along eventually. I close by saying this corporation REALLY NEEDS TO UNIONIZE !!!!! That way those money grubbing corporate bastards can’t treat their low level employees like shit!

    Crazy expectations

    So I’ve worked at Target for about a year and six months (and about 11 months since my last post here), and I am still baffled at the ineptness of the management staff at my store. Just to start, in my year and a half with this lovely company, I have had six hardlines ETLs. It is hard for me to understand how a company can expect to function properly if the management has a higher turnover rate than the sales floor. Fortunately, my current hardlines ETL actually has sales floor experience and has been with the company for most of his adult life, so he knows what he is doing. All of the others, on the other hand, are clueless. Both my Store Team Lead and the HR ETL are under investigation by the company for being general screwups, as well as using their positions to wrongfully terminate employees who they just don’t happen to like.

    Currently, our store is severely mismanaged. Everyone is being shafted on hours, except for a few favorites. Fortunately for me, I am one of the favorites, and I admit that I am shown favor over many other team members. I was recently allowed to switch to instocks, which gives me more hours and more convenient shifts, and I am still scheduled for many hardlines shifts on the weekends since the store is much busier and they need extra closers/ad setup. Unfortunately for me, the clusterfuck that is store #2205 has created a situation where the three person instocks team is responsible for their job, and half of everyone else’s. I come in for a typical instocks shift at 7:00 am, fully prepared to do my job, then suddenly BAM, “Hey guys, we are shorthanded on flow team today(every day), can you help us push out everything from the truck? Also can you push out all of this clearance? Also here are two flats full of back to school that need to go out!”
    So there goes two hours of time that we could be using to do our scans. THEN BAM, almost every weekday morning there is NOBODY scheduled for hardlines, except occasionally one Senior Team Lead. When you add a lack of team members scheduled for softlines, instocks is also completely responsible for answering code 1s, helping guests, answering calls, cleaning up spills, and doing whatever else suddenly needs immediate attention.
    So, eventually, we get to our actual jobs and have to rush through everything, never completing our tasks list, and attempting to push out all of our research pulls before we have to clock out. THEN AT THE END OF EVERY WEEK, WE GET CHEWED OUT BECAUSE WE DIDN’T GET ENOUGH SCANS.

    It just seems to me that the expectations they have are a little insane. We can’t do five jobs at once, and when we attempt to our performance drops. It seems fairly logical to me that when you pull away one team to assist another/replace another, then their original job isn’t getting done. Then again, maybe my expectations are insane if I think my store runs on silly things like logic or reason. I’ve resorted to cheating the system in order to keep our scores high enough to hopefully shield the instocks TL from ETL temper tantrums (EVER DAY IS RESCAN DAY! YAAAY!).

    Anyway, it is almost 2:00 am and I clock in at 7:00 am, I should probably get some sleep in preparation for the hell that awaits me. Any similar experiences?

    Legal Action for Giving Discounts?

    So I was given a final about a month ago for giving a discount. My friend’s mom (they’re broke) came in and tried to use my friend’s discount card, it didn’t go through because she was paying with a regular debit card so I took about 15 dollars off to save her the embarrassment of having to go through her cart and give her daughter’s friend items back that she couldn’t afford. They gave me the final, I took it, signed the paper. Well in the past I have given friends my co-workers discount number and gave them discounts. If Target finds out can they take legal action? I’ve been
    Stressing this whole month about it.

    They act like it is the worst thing possible. There are employees who qmos or whatever food items and take them home with them!

  • So I work at a target in the San Gabriel Valley in California. I’ve been an employee for two years about to be three. I work two jobs, pay for college out of my own pocket, and am a full time student. I can’t stand the way our Target store has picked out favorites already. I bust my ass five times more than other employees. I only received a ten cent raise this year while other team members who just walk around talking, take thirty minute breaks, hang out at the fitting room, call out repeatedly and always text receive a forty cent raise. I’m always the one being called to backup the cash registers, take out pull from the backroom, work three departments while others only work one, and am expected to do other team members work load because they have fallen behind. When I ask for help I’m always told ill be sent help. I guess they lost their way to where I am. Also every team lead we have are cousins and our manager is two of their god mothers. Apparently I offended one of the team leads with a joke about our new gstl will probably be their uncle and my hours have drastically dropped. Used to work 30 hours a week now 12 hours a week. I hate target and literally everything about it. I try calling the anonymous number to complain but they never do anything.

    ONE MONTH AND I’M CALLIN IT QUITS

    SO I was hired in the beginning of July and they told me changing my avaiability once school approached wouldn’t be an issue and hired me on the spot. They had me closing Friday-Sundays and working about 2-3 times during the week. I’m just gunna say working there has been terrible.  The GSTL’s and LOD’s complain when people bring in 10000 coupons and (even tho the computer checks them, they complain and insist we go thru their bags to make sure if they are saving over 100 dollars using coupons) IF UR COMPUTER IS ACCEPTING THEM AND U THINK THEY SHOULDNT  REWRITE YOUR COMPUTER PROGRAMS!  THEN  they always complain when you ask to have your break or lunch saying “WE tell you when to go to break/lunch” THEN when they worked me over 6 hours after I WARNED them saying my 6 hours was approaching  they yelled at me the next day when they realized i worked 20 minutes over 6 hours and said how it was my fault (EVEN THO I SPOKE OUT!) and made me sign some stupid paper saying it was my fault that i “lost track of time” BS. OH! and now that school is starting monday  I sent in my avaiabilty change request  last week..THEY DENIED IT! so now im scheduled to work…like 30 minutes after class..it takes me at least 45 minutes to drive HOME from school…It is ridiculous   they don’t care if you go to school or anything they just care about working you to the max no matter what. They even skip your breaks sometimes! It’s downright unfair and anyone thinking of working there shouldn’t. trust me no one on here is making any of this up..it’s really how they are. Puttin’ in my 2 weeks next friday.

  • I have worked at target since July 2012 and in that very short time period have grown to truly hate the store that claims they are a great team to work for. I was a typical good employee I always showed up on-time and often before my shift was scheduled to start, I put in just as much work as everyone else, and was always punctual in my appearance for work so I couldn’t understand why the Team Leader, I wont say her real name here but lets call her Jessica, disliked me so much. Over the course of my training I did things just how I was showed by my trainer and then continued that way until I was corrected by Jessica. Now when Jessica would give so called “coaching talks” she was demeaning and condesending toward me and did not speak to me as a valuable team member but rather talked down to me. I was surprised to learn that the way I was doing things was wrong because I was trained to do it this way, when I mentioned this to her she told me that it was my fault that I didn’t know the right way because I signed off on my training papers. This went on a few times and I was constantly being stopped from doing my work by Jessica to have “coaching talks” and they were often about petty little things. She also blamed me for not finishing pushing (stocking) the cart in my isle, but when I would try and finish the cart she would then get mad because I was staying later without being asked to finish it. SO for me it ended up being a lose lose situation and I was having to deal with a boss that constantly harrassed me while I was doing my work and when she would give her “coaching talks” they were put in a very condescending, demeaning, and degrading manner. DO NOT EVER apply to work for the Briton Target in Michigan you will most certainly have to deal with a demening, degrading, condescending control freak like her.

  • Alright, So I get that they need to sell cards. I get that they are trying to run a business, I understand that they need to continue to afford their meaningless expensive lifestyles and make sure little Timmy gets into the private school that all of the other 1% children are going to. It’s cool. But I am so sick to death of hearing about selling red cards. I need this job. I hate to admit it but for where I am, a college student going to classes all week, it’s important to have something that pays more than minimum wage. So I go to work every weekend, I clean all the registers and stock them out of personal choice and to avoid PURE hatred to consume me before 10am because I am so done with using my energy to smile at the assholes that come into the store. After cleaning, I stand at my register, greeting every guest with a smile, mostly to be met with a sneer or in most cases nothing at all because I am trash to most people who come into the store, I am lucky to work in a store that is in the blue blood district of my lovely state. Yay! 1% fuckers buying golf balls and $70 shoes for their 3 year old, not to mention buying their food with food stamps.

    Main point, I need this job, I could go on forever, and yes I already have, but I can’t get fired, FUCK the red card. IN THE ASS. Conversion rates are based on shit. The new manager is threatening everyone if they don’t sell more red cards and are enthusiastic and enjoy ripping customers off we will be fired. FUCK THEM, I wasn’t hired in a fucking sales position and I will see justice if I am fired over these fucking red cards. fuck this job. I am so glad I am able to go to college to avoid working for these asses for the rest of my life.

    HATE FOR THIS COMPANY GREW OVER TIME

    When I start working for target I liked it for the first 2 years. When I started off I worked on the sales floor then I worked my way up to the pharmacy dept. I was so happy because I was going to be making more money. I was at the target in Niles, the pharmacist there seemed nice, but over time she became a smartass and a pain in my side. I was a hard worker and never missed a day of work and tired my best to be nice to jackass customers. Mind you I stayed all the way in forest park and had to travel 2 hours every day to get to that hell hole.

    My review came early this year and she dogged me, She stated I wasn’t good enough, I need to do more to help out around the pharmacy, I wasn’t being friendly to customers. Bullshit if so why am I still working? So I decided to transfer to Melrose Park target, I thought it would be a little better. But no, the etl pharmacist led me to believe i would get more hours. When my transfer was complete he gave me 12 hours. I told him what I’m supposed to do with 12 hours, I have to pay rent and take care of daughter and I don’t get child support. He says you have to open your availability to nights and weekends. So I did even though this was so inconvenient for me because I’m a single mom my daughters dad isn’t around so I have to put this responsibility on my mom. I could understand if I didn’t tell him what my availability was before you took me on but I told him and he promised me more hours. He talks down to the techs like we are stupid. We don’t get our 15 min. breaks even if we are slow.
