I’m so happy to see I’m not the only cart attendant that does everything. In a typical day I do the carts of course, dispose of the trash from target cafe, the outside, and from behind guest service, take back the defectives fro guest service including salvage, crc, and vendor pickup items, empty the hangars, make sure the battery cart on the checklanes is full with batteries from electronics, occassionally do a cart of reshop or one or two pulls if its not the holidays, take care of cardboard including making bales if needed, and responding to carry outs/ spills/ backup cashier requests(fuck those) when needed.
And I do it all with a smile, because one day I’m going to blow, and that will be my last day at target.

First off I just have to say, THIS WEBSITE IS FUCKING AWESOME (and on a side note it actually works unlike EHR’s bullshit). I’ve spent hours reading people’s posts on here and never knew that there were so many other tm’s that felt the same way I do. I mean obviously most people usually dislike work, but working at target (as many of you know) brews a hatred so deep it transcends any normal hatred for a job. I’ve been working at target for over two years now, and my experience is like many of yours. I had never worked retail but was forced to apply because I was applying EVERYWHERE in the town I currently live in and no one was hiring- except target.

So I’ve worked at an Australian Target for the past 2 years and let me tell you it’s been hell from the start of my first shift.
I never decided to actually post about this hell hole until now, however I frequently scroll through here before my shifts to make me feel like my anger towards going to work and dealing with all the shit thrown at me is shared, which makes me feel slightly less alone about my hateful thoughts and feelings towards this place.

I was very excited at first working for Target, I was there for 2 weeks. In that two weeks, I was treated like I do not matter.
First day I was there, we did all the paperwork, and it lasted a very long time, mind you, I asked them nicely if we would be done by 5pm. (It took me 2 hours to get there by bus, train and a long walk) we did not finish until after 8, so I had to be out in the dark, which in a big city, alone was very scary.
They gave me a set time to be there, and I was always early, so I used to sit in the break room and read, I was told off for being TOO early…so I was very upset.

Im a cart attendant and holy fuck is it shitty. I literally do EVERY FUCKING THING IN THAT STORE!! I cashier, i clean bathrooms, i get carts, i get baskets, i clean spills, i stock closets, i take trash back, i take hangers back, i redistribute baskets. No i don’t zone and shit but still. A cashier has if so easy. Stat indoors and check people out. I work outside in shittiest of weathers with no one to help me. On weekends its like they don’t realize theres more people and that means more carts. A single cart attendant cant keep up with a saturday day during the holidays. Fuck you target. Cant wait to quit your bitch ass store. The LOD don’t do shit but yell at me for not keeping up with bathrooms. Sorry do you want carts or bathrooms clean?

Here I will list every issue with this store that has personally gotten me incredibly irritated, as well as upset and/or angry at one point or another. Also this is from the perspective of a salesfloor worker, with some training in cashier duty. Let us begin, shall we? c:

Alright. So usually the break schedules are made up ahead of time and everything is fine and shit, but I switched shifts with a woman last Saturday, and my fucking god. I was initially scheduled for 4:30-10, got called in at 3 to cashier for an hour and a half, so that’s a seven hour shift. 2 breaks, 1 lunch. I wasn’t even ON the break schedule for one. And even though I brought this up with both LODs (yes there were two that night) and with the HR and with the chicks up at the service desk, nothing was done about it. So by 5:30 I still hadn’t had a break, so I was just like fuck it, went to take my break. And the other guy I was working with didn’t get his first break until like 6, granted he was in at 3:30, so not quite so bad…but fuckin’ still.

hey guys
I worked at target for three horrible months in the summer. I absolutely hated it. I know you get horrible guests anywhere you work but it’s like target guests are on a different level. So anyway I didn’t like it. For one its so hot at those registers your dizzy all the time. Two everybody was quitting left and right. Too much work for this little pay. And they didn’t want to help me advance while other people who were working there for shorter times than myself could advance to guest services or Starbucks (i was originally hired to work at starbucks but they put me at cashier). So now I’m back for Christmas break. I’ve been calling and calling and I’m still not in schedule I even go up there and it’s a whole new set of employees so no one will help me and even the people that know me didn’t help. And our supervisor or whatever her title is she wears too many hats because everybody is quitting. So I officially don’t want to work there.

So since Christmas is almost here, most stores have more check out lanes open, right? Haha, not at Target. My store has 14 lanes, 4 of them being express lanes. During the middle of the day on a Saturday or Sunday, there’s only FOUR cashiers! Seriously??!! And even when the evening rolls around and it gets a little less busy, they are still having to call for backup every two seconds. I was up on a cashier lane for an hour, an hour I could have been zoning and finishing my pulls. But no, I had to go up for backup every 5 minutes because no one else responded on the damn walkie. I’ve never seen an LOD go up for backup, I think they should since they don’t do anything else. But honestly, you would think target would want to get people checked out as quickly as possible, but I suppose that would make too much sense for this shit hole.

Let’s start off by saying that I actually liked working there the first month or so, I got hired back in October so my 90 days is about up. I’m a college student at a major university, I figured this job would give me a little extra cash for rent and all the other college expenses. WRONG. I was in for most likely would be the most degrading job I’ve ever had. At first it was magical, I lived and breathed Target. I started to notice weird things about this job almost a month in, like this red card business. All these incentives and stupid games they want TM’S and Team Leaders to play in order for us to sell more-gift cards, GSTL’s wearing goofy outfits/hats, pop and candy. But the pressure was phenomenal on these little pieces of plastic. Then the holidays came…
