    Living the Backroom life.

I’ve been working here for over a year now, and I work a number of positions, including Flow. (The people who come in at 4am to do the freight/truck process and stock the shelves before the store opens. Whilst I have a plethora of unkind truths to share about the Flow team process (Example: Witnessing the Flow TL yell at a Flow TM for being slow, and telling him to keep his personal business at home when his best friend committed suicide less than a day ago.), I will focus on “Day side Backroom”. Specifically, having to pull cavs. (A list of items that need to be taken from the backroom, and pushed onto the floor to keep the floor stocked. To the best of my knowledge, these lists are populated based on what is selling.. in theory. These lists repopulate hourly.)

    The dormant cart attendant.

I’m so happy to see I’m not the only cart attendant that does everything. In a typical day I do the carts of course, dispose of the trash from target cafe, the outside, and from behind guest service, take back the defectives fro guest service including salvage, crc, and vendor pickup items, empty the hangars, make sure the battery cart on the checklanes is full with batteries from electronics, occassionally do a cart of reshop or one or two pulls if its not the holidays, take care of cardboard including making bales if needed, and responding to carry outs/ spills/ backup cashier requests(fuck those) when needed.

And I do it all with a smile, because one day I’m going to blow, and that will be my last day at target.

    i absolutely HATE target

So I’ve worked at an Australian Target for the past 2 years and let me tell you it’s been hell from the start of my first shift.

I never decided to actually post about this hell hole until now, however I frequently scroll through here before my shifts to make me feel like my anger towards going to work and dealing with all the shit thrown at me is shared, which makes me feel slightly less alone about my hateful thoughts and feelings towards this place.

    Dis tew much!!!!

I’ve been working for target for about a year now and i love this site. I’ve been reading almost every post surprised that others are going through the same problems i am. This will be my first post and hopefully be my last as i don’t plan on working at this place too much longer.

So today i got my corrective action and I’m surprised that it took so long for them to say or do anything about it. I’ve been late more than a few time and i will admit that i do have somewhat of an attitude so those are 2 things i can take accountability for but what they wrote and said to me i can’t deal with like i said in my headliner dis tew much.

    Do not work here

So I worked for target in a hardlines position for a good 3 months only to be fired two days before my ninety days was up. While California is an at will employment state they don’t need a reason. They need even less while in your ninety days. From day one my boss had a vendetta against me. She consistently gave me three departments to cover usually toys hba and sporting goods. Toward the end of my shift she would bring everyone over to point of things I did wrong and have everyone fix my horrible zone. When she fired me i asked for a reason why and she gave me the arbitrary reason of “I just feel like this job isn’t a good fit for you.” later do I find out that my executive team lead didn’t even know she wanted to fire me and that HR said if she wanted me gone she would have to be the one to do it.

    Seasonal? Not Seasonal? What gives?

I was hired in early October. Not once in any interviews did they say anything about me being a seasonal worker. All of my paperwork says Hardlines, Part-Time, stuff like that, yet I am treated as a seasonal employee and constantly reminded about how my time may be limited now that I am working there. What happens if they try to let me go at the end of the season for being a “Seasonal Worker” when that isn’t documented at all? I won’t be too heartbroken if they make me leave but is that even legal? To document me as one kind of worker and then try to say I’m not and get rid of me? What are my options if this happens? Has anyone else had this experience?

    Seasonal Employee Training Rant

I just started a seasonal position in hardlines (I think. They said hardlines but all my training has been in softlines.) I overheard one of my other team members say they minimized the training for seasonal employees, but my training almost seems nonexistent. The only decent training I had was on registrars, and the other trainers just hand me stuff to reshop for them. The day after my first day they had me work a full shift without a trainer, but I was so confused and I honestly didn’t know what I was doing. My other team members always seem annoyed when I ask for help. This is my first job too.

    Training day fucking debacle

It was my first day of training. I go to the operator, tell her what’s up. She tells me to go to the registers and wait for a trainer. Some other employee directed me to my trainer because I was standing around like an idiot waiting for one. Guess what? My trainer was already training someone! And she had no idea she had to train someone else!

After that’s sorted out, the trainer had me shadow her, but she wasn’t really explaining anything. She just had me watch her and hoped that I got it. So when I took over, I fumbled a bit. It was to be expected, and I was pretty nervous, but she hardly did any explaining until I made mistakes. Thanks, I guess?

    Thoughts on Target

It has been nearly a year now since I began working in Target, and my experience went from being decent to disappointment. This comes in the fact that a number of things happened within the company itself, along the number of ETL’s, LOD’s, and new TL that are causing issues.

When I started working, they had a strong team. We worked and meshed well together, and we are able to get things done. Some of the TM taught me what I need to know to some TL teaching more tricks that will help me out. I was praised, surprisingly, by LOD’s (Yeah two of them I consider them understanding business) and in returned worked hard for them. That was for at least four months.

Suddenly two of those LOD’s were ‘relocated’ (They quit Target) and lost two TL’s in the Hardlines department. When they brought in the new LOD, I learned she was exiled from the store I worked for being incompetent.

    Not accepting availability requests

So a few of my co-workers needed to change their availability for school and now they are declining availability changes???

Also, they are declining time off also?

Why the hell are they doing this?

If they’re not going to change availability, everyone is gonna quit!!

Is your store doing this too?
