Training day fucking debacle

It was my first day of training. I go to the operator, tell her what’s up. She tells me to go to the registers and wait for a trainer. Some other employee directed me to my trainer because I was standing around like an idiot waiting for one. Guess what? My trainer was already training someone! And she had no idea she had to train someone else!

After that’s sorted out, the trainer had me shadow her, but she wasn’t really explaining anything. She just had me watch her and hoped that I got it. So when I took over, I fumbled a bit. It was to be expected, and I was pretty nervous, but she hardly did any explaining until I made mistakes. Thanks, I guess?

About an hour in, she had to go on break but I was to keep training. So I get paired up with some guy who was much more helpful, thankfully. He explained everything and helped me when I took over. But he had to take over at guest services for some time, so I was left alone to do my job. No big deal, I didn’t have to do anything overly complicated that required assistance. The guy came back soon enough anyway.

Later on the HR girl (who did orientation) stops by, I guess to check up on me. I thought I was doing a decent job, and so did my second trainer. Everything seemed perfectly fine. My second trainer ended his shift, so I waited around for a third one to be pulled to my register. Like the second guy, she was super helpful and explained everything to me while I watched, then eventually I took over and she helped me.

Here’s where shit went full r****d. Someone (I’m assuming a team leader) came by my register and told me that I wasn’t supposed to be working the registers. She said the HR girl was pissed off, that I needed to do “other training” first, and that I should be working at a register at other end (I assume so I could be relatively out of sight). “Other training” was about as specific as they would get. Well sooooorry. I was just following my trainers. Nobody told me that I had to do anything other than go to my trainer. So maybe the trainers weren’t supposed to have trainees work the registers on day one, but I highly doubt they were given instructions at all, seeing how I had three different ones and my first trainer (who was supposed to be my official trainer) had no idea she was going to be training multiple people.

Oh, and close to the end of my shift, the team leader (again, I’m assuming) came by to tell my trainer and me that we can go on break. She then asked when I got off and when I told her, “Right now,” she gave me this total bitch “Are you fucking serious” face. She told me to take my 15 minute break before I clocked out, and that was the end of that.

tl;dr: Nobody told me shit, except for the trainers. So what did I learn on my first day? I learned how to use the register, thankfully. But I also learned that those in charge are fucking incompetent and that nobody knows what’s going on here.
