Took Ten Years of My Life

I have sat here and read almost five pages of these blogs. I seriously thought I was the only person who felt this way.

For ten years I worked at two different Target stores. Working at the first one was great. We had an excellent ETL Team, Team Leads and Store manager. There were always there to help. THe second one eh!

    So this bitch…

I got out of the military, started school and decided to take some time off to rethink my major. So, I get a job at Target thinking I could do what I usually do when I get a job and just do my job well enough to earn a lead position, work my way up. I started about 3 weeks ago in softlines, nothing but other females. They are all pretty cool to work with but the “leads”….goddamn, whatta bunch of cunts.

    Target in Kemah, Texas

So I’ve been with target for 2 months now, and this is what I’ve gotten so far. I work as cart attendant and rarely as cashier. I love being outside doing carts(if it wasn’t so hot out). But every time i get one side caught up and the other side is completely empty, our LOD asks me to cover a couple of breaks. So when i’m done with that and i go back out to do carts, 5 minutes into it, i get a call on the walkie saying “cart attendant, we have no carts on blue side”. and I can’t say anything back to them except “that’s clear”. It’s like they’re completely oblivious as to why they have none. That, and now they have me come in from 1-5pm almost everyday except Sunday(i close), so from 8am-1pm no one is getting carts. SO when i come in, we have none and i get a “talking to” that i need to start hustling to get the carts in.

My two supervisors, who are the worst people ever, can never be found on the front lanes like they have to be.

    Hate after 1 week.

1 week. That’s all it took for me to utterly despise my job at target(i refuse to capitalize it).  Now, I’ve been working retail for many years and aside from some general annoyances, I’ve enjoyed it.  3 months ago I was hired as a Starbucks Barista.  Let the venting commence in no particular order.

    Hate my job

I don’t really have an issue with the guests. I get 1-4 redcards a night but I do it more because I like to help guests, and SOMETIMES they give us free electronics movies (or rare cases they give you any item from electronics and once I grabbed a $14.99 skylander and have a bunch of freebie $5 movies) but none of this has to do with my issue. I’m autistic so I tend to be very specific in how I interact with most guests, and I tell jokes like “I see you bought some alchohol, well I don’t have to wish you a good night, you’ve planned ahead, but make sure the next morning isn’t so bad” and people laugh, I tell people “If you subscribe to Playstation Plus instead of buying this game you can get it for free, and like 15 other games” and so the guests really aren’t my issue.

My issue is with the indentured servitude bullshit. My issue is with them acting like we owe them something because they pay us a MIRACULOUS 50 cents or maybe a dollar or 2 above the federal minimum wage based on circumstances, and you have a chance to get like 15-30 cents raise maybe or what ever. Tonight was a huge straw and I was seeing red, punching walls, and nearly flipped my vehicle I was so angry. I was scheduled from 6:00 p.m. to 12:00 a.m. and then scheduled from 9:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and then they had the balls to keep us an hour and a half late.

    My worst nightmare!

I started working for target on the 5th of November. This is my very first job. I really did not need a job but I needed the experience. I am studying to become a Registered Nurse and later a CRNA. My first day was great because I had 2 wonderful ladies training me. However, the other 2 are just plain HORRIBLE. They are rude and look at me like I don’t know a thing. The 2 wonderful women that trained me were impressed as how fast I learned everything because of the fact that I never in my life cashiered. Anyway, those two are just plain rude and evil. They talk about employees that work under them like they’re worthless and scum.

    Social Injustice

What many team-members do not realize, or do not want to realize, is that high-paying positions are given to the privileged. Everyday, college grads enter the company out of nowhere, being placed in high-paying positions, while experienced team members are ignored. What ever happened to work your way up? High-paying (salary) positions are meant for the privileged. The poor-working-class team members are only given more hours, as a compliment. A real compliment would be professional development. However, one must fit the criteria first. The criteria, imo, is being a white male, a hot white female, or minority woman. Of course, their are exceptions. Working at target has taught me that hard work is irrelevant to becoming an exec. Hard workers are only rewarded with more hard work. There is a great social injustice committed by Target Corporation, the inequality between the privileged and poor-working-class. Various movements are in progress (McDonald’s workers fight for living wage, $15 per hr., Occupy  Wall St., Labor, counter-culture, Anonymous, etc., Occupy Target should exist, too. It’s important to realize there are more of us then there are of them.

1 year in and starting to dislike it

Hello peeps, i came across this site as i was googling how people felt about working in target. I decided to post here cause im 1 year into this and im starting to dislike it. it starts like this. i was hired as a seasonal member during october of 2012 and i knew i could be terminated by january after the holidays. since i needed a job badly i started talking to a few ppl  and was told to cross train to different areas to give the impression i was interested in staying.. so i did. I cross trained to planogram softlines, PTM, and some backroom, i knew hardlines, and cashiering and thoughout my seasonal time there i worked all those areas. surely in january i was offered a regular position and i was happy lol. in april they started reviews but i wasnt expecting much since i was still relatively new. one of the hardline TLs made my review (who i didnt really work with) and she started off by saying my review was tricky because i was still relatively new then she continued on to say i was a reliable member always coming in to work, picking up hrs, coming in when they needed me etc. then she burst my bubble by saying i got an IE rating (inefficiently something…)

  • I work at a Target and well quite frankly I now hate my job. I have worked as a cashier for over 3 years, my first 2 reviews were E-Effective, my current review is a IE- Inconsistently Effective. Now I ask, WHY ALL OF A SUDDEN? I have a new GSTL and ETL-GE, they see me maybe an hour or so a week. How can they adequately grade my performance on that? Well I complained, and what I got back was basically them saying they don’t like my attitude, well yea I AM UPSET sorry that you pissed me off.

I of course was much nicer when I talked to them about it.

It is now causing me anxiety, depression, stress hives, etc.
