    comp shop

I obviously hate target and I could go on and on as to why. I have a question about comp shopping in particular. If my score is consistently green, do I need to worry if I am making prices up? Even if I am in the green?

This is simply bullshit working here..

So fellow co workers, you know I honestly hate this fucking company. For it being my very first job I gotta say, its bullshit. I recently got my review and I figured it wouldn’t be that bad. Well apparently my hard work since last November when I got hired hasn’t payed off. This stupid ass team lead that is from softlines did mine, my overall score was IE (Inconsistently Efficient). I was like wow just wow. Its so fucked up because I get way more work done than a lot of people there. I get two zones done in the shitty five hours they schedule us. What it takes my co worker to do one area I’ve already done two. So my overall raise was $7 cents lol.

    Handling fruitcakes ….

    1) So this old man and his wife were on my line of ten people over the holidays and they have only four large items in their cart.
I greet them cheerfully as I always do and they start right in, with heavy European accents – first the wife: “We need large bags! The BIG ones.” Okay sure – no problem, now lets ring up the first –
    We need ALL of them!”
Uh, I’ll give you several, but how about the first item? “How many will you give us, we need all of the them!”
You mean, the entire roll of 50 bags? “YES, ALL OF THEM.” Uh, no – I can’t do that, but lets ring up the first item and we’ll get your order bagged first, then we’ll worry about the rest, thank you.
Then the husband “Who are you – Mr. Target? We need many many bags! All of them!”
Okay, we’ll get to that in a moment, sir. Your first item, please. Now! (I’m beginning to get pissed off).

    Red in the face…

So maybe you’ve read my “cashier survival 101” and “redcard method” articles here (not posted yet, still under moderation).
It’s astonishing that no matter west or east coast, Minneapolis or Dallas, employees have the same story. This company has so much money pouring in the door that somehow they can afford to have assholes and morons running the place while corporate sits back and weaves their webs of deceit and plays their games. It is a diseased culture that thrives on simply placing square pegs in square holes and round pegs in round holes. I never expected much out of this place, but it’s been quite the letdown. Thank God I took this job only for the health benefits. I was asked by a guest once if I dress up to cashier because I take it seriously. I told him “No, it’s because I DON’T take it seriously….”

Any chimpanzee can do it, chimps even smile. The only difference is that chimps will throw shit back at the guests.

    CASHIER SURVIVAL 101

I’m colossally pissed off at Big Red (my hours are down to 21 from 37 and this little prick of a new hire gets 37 right out of the fucking gate!), but no so ticked that I don’t take pity on my fellow cashiers. My 100s of regular guests love me and when I finally get termed there are going to be hordes that will tear my store apart in revenge *laghs*.

Do these things to help yourself:

  • I’ve been with Big Red for about 2 years solely as a cashier. In that time I’ve been totally jerked around: I had 12 years experience in retail, handled $200,000 accounts in my former real job and have been screamed at by people over REAL issues and not just where their damned bread is, and managed a crew of five bringing in trucks and maintaining  a stockroom – none of which counted for anything when I was hired. Mgmt didn’t even know my history or care. I was offered a position in electronics which never materialised unless they wanted me to fill in for their breaks, I pushed carts in a pinch in the rain though I’m over 30, My first raise evaporated when they bumped up starting pay to $8.25 (so I was only making as much as a new hire, and expected to train them!).

  • So in continuation of my previous post just recently I got called in and accused for a having two no call no shows.  When I was told this I immediately ask what day the second one was on cause I remember the first one cause I ended up showing up at the time I was supposed to be leaving for that shift due to putting in the wrong time on my phone by accident and if I missed a day I surely would have heard about it the next day I worked.  Turns out the second one was on a day that I actually did work and I remember working that day too cause they had called me a few hours before my shift to see if I could come in the next day and then called me again an hour later telling me they didn’t need me to come in the next day anymore.  That was also the day before our store had a visit from the DM and I remember the LOD that night complimented me on how good my zone was.  During the time we’re waiting to get a confirmation that I did work that day the TL I was talking to dropped this lovely little line to me when I asked why they wouldn’t have called me, “While some TLs or LODs might call to see where some one is at sometimes, that is not my responsibility.”  What little faith I had in this stores management was instantly lost when I heard this.

  • So for the past three months it seems that my store is trying to find as much shit they can so they can fire me in the near future.  I had started noticing it around the end of March when it seemed like around every corner there was an LOD or TL ready to tell me to do something or make sure I’m “on task.”  It wasn’t until the beginning of April that my suspicions were confirmed when I got called in to have a lovely little corrective action talk.  The three things they listed off to me were that I was hanging around electronics to much and in turn slacking off according to them thus “making everyone else having to pick up the slack”, I neglected to pick up and hang signs back up on to here hangers, and one night I had forgotten to zone the back wall of toys and had to be reminded to go and do it.  Finally towards the end I was told that I’m not communicating on the walkie enough, I’m not doing pulls, reshop, and zoning fast enough with a sense of urgency, and it seems like I don’t want to be there.

  • As a relatively new Mom of a nearly two-year old girl, part of the reason I would go to Target for groceries and everything else was because the Bakery section offers a free cookie for kids.  It’s a small chocolate chip cookie, but the times I have gone and politely asked for one, I am treated like an insect, like I am asking for some sort of free human organ for transplant.  It’s ridiculous.

Target’s customer service has plummeted in the last several years and each time I go there, the lines are longer and the employees handing out the cookies are more and more rude.  Don’t offer a free cookie if it pains you to do so.  Also, think about it.  That crappy cookie that probably costs you about 50 cents max makes it possible for me to shop at least 15 more minutes while my child happily munches.  Do you know how much more money I can spend without a screaming child having a complete meltdown in your red cart?!  I guess that’s not something Target is interested in though.  No big deal.  I can go elsewhere, happily.  In fact, I have an adorable organic coop right by my house that costs about 25% more, but they are so friendly and give my kid a cheese stick every time and fall all over themselves to make me and my child happy.  We will be going there from now on.

P.S.: I finally called the Manager at the local Target and complained about the cookie unfriendliness when my husband, the world’s nicest person, mentioned the bakery people’s demeanor to me.  That was the last straw.  Ava, the Manager, even cut me off mid sentence and said she would mention it to the Bakery Department and then hung up.  They don’t even care to hear you out when you have a complaint.  As my daughter would say: “Naughty Target,  BYE BYE!”

See tons of other Target complaints, here.  See original post here.

  • So I’ve worked at Target for almost 2 years and I just got my review(woohoo! a 12 cent raise because I’ve worked their for 22 months, so my pay is not $8.22) and during my review the GSTL told me that my attendance was at 95% and my cashier speed was 98%. She said that most people don’t have the 95% attendance and would love for everyone to have it that high. I was so happy, someone was actually acknowledging me for something good that I do, since I get almost no stupid REDcards.

So I went back out to my lane and I was asking almost every guest. I was asking the way they told me ask, by “engaging” with them, blah blah blah, and then that same GSTL has to just hover over me the whole night, telling me to make sure I push the “additional assistance” button when there is a backup, or circling the survey. REALLY? Does anyone care about the survey? NO! And no one wanted a stupid REDcard. How am I supposed to get to our store goal of 2.05 conversion when no one wants a card?!! last year the goal was 1.05% and I was barely there, now it has raised and it’s just gotten ridiculous!

Whenever one of the annoying GSTL’s or LOD/ETL is on shift, they always just stand near my lane, making sure I’m doing my job and then they find some stupid way to criticize me.

Why do all the people that tell me every single day to get a REDcard never have to actually be on a lane and get a REDcard? I want them to see how “easy” it really is, forcing these people to get card.
