So I have now worked at two targets (transferred from the last store I was at because I finished university and the job market where I live is generally shitty, and seeing as a new target was just opening up, it seemed to be a good idea/fresh start). Anyways, I fucking hate target. My last store before I was transferred gave me 4 hour Shifts a week and played favourites with some pretty incompetent employees. The new store I’m at has been okay with hours, for now (though they keep fucking with my schedule, more on that later) and like my last store The TLs, ETLS and even STLs have no idea what the fuck they are doing, one ETL at my new store even compared not wearing a name tag on the sales floor to “going into Afghanistan without a gun” I wish I was fucking joking.(he said this at morning huddle)

I was a bench TL at my store “waiting for another TL to quit or get fired” to fill in. I interviewed around september 2013 and around January of 2014 my HR ETL and my Hardlines ETL pulled me in the office. They said due to the data breach, I won’t be able to get promoted for a while. All stores in the district need to cut leaders. By september of next year my store needs to cut 3 TLs and one ETL. Once they leave if other stores aren’t at where they need to be, they would just get transferred in. Pretty much there is no hope for me to move up. So I took initiative and applied at another place as part-time.
At my interview at my other job, I impressed my boss very well that they offered me a full-time supervisor position, so I took it because it was more money. At Target I went on LOA, to see if i liked the new job.

Hey guys I work as a cashier for about a year now and honestly hate the job. There are days I simply do not want to go because well, who the hell wants to go work with annoying ass costumers? Im only working here till I’m done with community college and thats less than a year away. Anyways I want to know how many times can you call out before you get fired?… I hear you have to have many coachings till you get fired. So can someone help me with this?

I worked at target for 2 years and nothing they did was in the best interest for there team members. A 2,700 piece truck was to be thrown by only two people in under an hour and no cold water at the end cause it wasn’t in there “budget”. But yet they are able to decorate the break room with useless crap every month I mean really!!! When we did our remodel they hired a new team to replace the guys that went to over nights so when we got back to days after the remodel was finished the team they hired was horrible!

So there is this new thing at my store where the LODs spy on cashiers to make sure they are doing the Vibe. They have a checklist to see that you are greeting every guest, enganging the guest during transaction, pushing redcards, pushing surveys, pushing cartwheel, pushing re-usable bags, and wishing the guest a good day.
What do I mean by spying?

Recently received yet another bullshit coaching about my performance. Thanks coach! Fuck off. Took everything in my power not to hit this motherfucker in the face as he was talking down to me. I bust my ass and work as fast as I can everyday, yet I still get coachings instead of thank yous. I’m a hardlines TM who has to push the carts from the backroom by myself, even on truck days. One person cannot handle this workload alone and I have mentioned this to my idiot boss multiple times. It’s like talking to a fucking brick wall though, this guy.
He claims the reason there are still carts in the back room in the morning is because I’m moving too slow. Motherfucker, I bust my ass everyday!

Avoid Target. Don’t even consider it. You would be better off being a greeter at Wal-mart. I’ll tell you my experiences and hopefully they will sway you into not working here. I’ve been working on Flow for almost 3 years now, and at first, it was not that bad. My ETL was really nice but disciplinary when he needed to be and everyone actually seemed to do their job well. However, about six months after I started, that ETL quit and a new one was hired a whole two months later. You think they would’ve gotten someone before he even left, but nope, not at Target. Two months later our new ETL started and she was terrible.

I worked for Garland East Super Target – 1489 from Spring 2004 to Winter 2014.
OMG the amount of Store Politics, I don’t care who you respect or like, we are adults, treat each other with respect and do your damn job. Don’t try and screw each other over.
Ever the asshole who spent a year verbally abusing me got my respect as a TM. I would still help and work with that homophobic asshole. Be fucking professional.
These are fucking Store Managers, ETLs and TLs causing even more grief in the store so they could screw the next ETL or TL for some god awful stupid ass reason.

We went from a Store manager who never left an end-cab in a disgraceful state, never left a isle empty, and never lets ETLs, or TLs waste hours to store managers who would barely walk the floor much less keep tabs on ETL, and TLs. The planagrams where behind by a month, end-cabs completely shit, and isles empty, well with the signage “coming soon” bullshit.
ETLs stopped trying to do there jobs and simply gave up any attempt to solve problems. ETLs and TLs who never even tried to Lead. Some things where so simple.

So I’ve worked at Target on overnight flow for less than a month. It’s basically my first job (aside from a brief training phase at Jimmy John’s which ended in termination because the store’s labor count was too high). Like most of the stories, I thought the job would be good esp for a first time employee and the pay’s really gorgeous. On paper, anyway.
