My store just hired a bunch (like 20-25) new people. Just when we were finally getting hours. The result my hours have been cut in half. This is without a doubt the worse place i have ever worked. The business model is built on treating people like disposable . This is a soul crushing job with no positive qualities.

This is with any big cooperation. Benefits are the key to getting you excited to be working at any super store. A great employee discount, and great pay. Target had given me a job in softlines, and to cashier, and mostly it was all about “why you should work here, and not somewhere else” with that being said. I needed a job, so the benefits tactic didn’t affect me because well i just needed good pay, and good hours. It wasn’t until i realized yesterday that $9.00 an hour, and my 15% discount didn’t really matter. it was my first day of training in softlines, and my trainer was really sweet about everything, but she gave me that look.

I have a question!!! When trying to change availability I have been told that I HAVE to be available and open to close! Is every store like this or is it just mine? Or is this an issue I need to take up with the corporate office? It makes me feel like I am in some kind of jail! I have never heard of a job telling their employees that it’s mandatory that they are available. In past jobs the most they could do was just cut your hours but not target!

So I’ve worked for target roughly 9 months now, and at first I loved it in sales floor, got red cards like no other which is awesome for a sales floor when the cashiers couldn’t even get them. I got no attention for it. All the other team member got recognized for the stupidest shit like she cleaned a spill up claps wtf lets talk about the five red cards I got in the three hours I was here how about that?

I’ve looked at this site for plenty of time now and finally decided to post my own, because target has made me miserable, at best. I’m 18 years old and I am already completely exhausted of working (especially in retail) thanks to target. I started this past September. I was a loyal target shopper (not loyal enough to get a red card though ha ha!) and I thought working here would be fun. Wrong.

—note: This is not referring to accidental mytime mistakes from auto generated schedule—-
There are many times that it’s not a mistake when your availability is getting overridden. A flag comes up to let them know you are not available for a certain day/time frame. To get around this, some of the HR “managers” will go in and change the beginning date of your availability. For example, you originally started being off on tuesday’s 4 months ago… and you find out your “unavailable” shift is no longer showing when you check the schedule on the board.

So I work at a Target out in California, and as state law out here implies, companies cannot FORCE you to provide your own uniform for a particular job.
That being said, to go along with that law, Target stores out here permit you to wear (and I’m going to quote the rule book itself here) “any solid color pants, excluding jeans.”

I started at Target 7 years ago and it wasn’t such a bad job then, I got 40 hours plus over time and was making 600-700 dollar checks. Now I’m working 18 hours and I’m pretty much running around the whole store (my store is two stories by the way) making sure CAFS, EXF, AND RESEARCH batches are being pulled while pulling items out for people on the floor and simultaneously trying to get MyFA’s done. They want you to finish everything within a certain time but they dont have enough equipment or keys for the crown to go around and not enough ladders either. I’m exhausted, I’m stressed out that all this hard work is going to a shitty check that barely covers my rent and bills…
