I work at a store in San Luis Obispo, CA that just opened in August. I have been with the company and this store for almost a year… Even helped put it all together. They hired every single cashier, salesfloor, and cart attendant employee at a non-negotioable pay of 8.25 an hour. Which all by itself is absurd. But as a young, college bound girl in a city I wasnt familar with, I really didnt care at the time. A job is a job.
I was never formally trained in ANYTHING. They just kinda ran through the basics and sent me on my way… I am greatful that there were some experienced transfers that knew how to use a PDA and were actually willing to take the time to show me how things worked.
I was hired as a Hardlines associate. I actually really enjoyed this position. If I didnt think about how little I was being paid for the amount of work I had to do that is… With little or no recognition… After a few months they had me cross train in a couple different areas. Which was fine. I didnt mind the occasional shift somewhere else in the store. But it has now gotten out of hand!! For the last two months I havent had one hardlines shift. I have expressed my feelings many a time to the Team Leads and LOD’s and they plain and simple, dont give a shit. I pick up on things quickly and I do my job very well wherever they put me. They take advantage of that. But they had been making it sound like all employees were having to be put in other areas so they can better lay out the schedules and figure out the payroll stuff… When working as an operator you have the schedule for everyone in front of you all the time. I went through it. Turns out NOBODY else has a schedule like mine. I am in a different area every day of the week. Closing one night. Opeing to do instocks at 6:30 am the next. Its terrible. You cant get on any kind of sleep schedule with varying times like that… Just saying. This is my biggest, and most current issue with them.

I’m honestly about ready to quit this crap job.
I loved the former store I worked at, but after transferring to one on the other side of the country, I’m just not happy. Everyone treats me like I’m an actual new hire and I have no idea what my job is, even if I repeat myself over and over that I’ve been with this stupid store for two years. I’m trained in hardlines, guest service, and electronics. But you know where they put me day in and day out? Cashiering. They won’t even CONSIDER promoting me to GSTL/GSA. I’ve been there for 2 years but every GSA that I work for has been there less time than me, and they were hired these positions as new hires. It’s literally impossible to move up.
Not to mention, in February I found out I am pregnant. The week I found out, they called me and I (unfortunately) answered. They tried to get me in as a cart attendant shift. I’ve never worked as a cart attendant, and I told them I didn’t feel comfortable doing that shift. They harassed me and asked me over why I couldn’t come in and I flat out told them that I had just found out I was pregnant. I went from working 20-30 hours a week to 9. Even no hours a week after that. After I bitched about it to them, I finally got 30 hours again. The next week? 14 hours. I’ve been having a really complicated pregnancy so far, and I’m constantly sick and in and out of the hospital on days when I’m not working. Today I was supposed to work 4-11 and I’ve had the stomach flu and a high fever the past two days, but I went in and sucked it up because they’ve been letting people go for “poor attendance”. So I figured that maybe making an effort would be a good impression. Nope. My GSTL told me to talk to the LOD about going home and let’s just say the LOD was not pleased, at all. He told me that going home early was the same as “calling out” so I have a feeling I have a coaching when I go back in later this week.
They know I’m pregnant. They know things have been rough for me. Yet they show no remorse. They don’t care when I’m in the bathroom every 10 minutes puking or gagging or dry heaving or whatever.
I’d rather just not work or find a new job than be here. Two years is two years too many. I’m fed up.

Greetings, I have been with Target with 5 years and it’s the worse place to work. I can’t believe I have there for 5 years, however luckily I’m still young so I can make a break from this awful place. When I first started it was fine and good until the reality kicked in that I was badly underpaid and treated by these scums of ETL’s and LOD’s. I swear to god if I had a nickle for every time they called me on my days off to come in and work I would’ve been a millionaire already =). Sometimes they would call me 2-3 times in a day; WTF? STOP FUCKING CALLING ME YOU ASSHOLES!!!!
Another thing is that if you weren’t a favorite of the ETL’s than you didn’t stand a chance of being promoted or even treated respectfully; what a joke. Mostly it’s the sales floor team that were the favorites of the ETL’s because they work so closely and they were included in the “huddles” with the ETL’s and LOD’s where as cashiers were treated like dirt crap. I started off at $7.50 than got bumped because of minimum wage to $8.00 plus the generous raises I’ve received through the years which added to the total of $0.68; what an insult. I have no benefits so pretty much this is a dead end job for me. This place has bought the evil in me and so I’m leaving this awful place for good. Our STL actually quit because she herself couldn’t take this crap even though she contributed to the crap; LoL.
Target should be unionized to the fullest because of all the abuse and crap that goes on. I’ve seen their anti-union video twice already and it’s a complete joke. To those of you youngsters who have started at Target or who are considering working for Target; DON’T . If you must work than only stay for a limited time maybe a year or so than quit. Believe me the chunk change they pay you is not worth it. I’ve finally put in my 2 weeks notice will be gone for good by next week; I have no job lined up but that’s ok because I hate this awful place. I’m planning on going back to school for my bachelors. FINALLY FUCK YOU TARGET.

Today I was lectured by one of my team leads on how I needed to be more “brand.” Til this point, for two years, I had been wearing a short sleeve red shirt with a long black one on the bottom…no one had ever told me I couldn’t and I had seen other people wearing that; but according to this team lead, it is not brand and I need to dress more professionally. The whole time I was thinking “Are you kidding me!? you don’t pay me enough to wear professional clothes!” I am a salesfloor employee who is always covered in dust and whatever crappy food avenue items the stupid customers spill; they pay me minimum wage and the maximum amount of hours I get a week are 22.5 and they expect me to dress up professionally!? I dress the way I do because that’s what I can afford on what they pay me. YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR TARGET! I totally told the team lead that and her response was to shop in the clearance…hahahahha! Can you believe that shit? Only at Target!

I started at a brand new Target, along with all the other employees, in Illinois a few years back. I waited in line with approx 5000 people to get the job. At first I really liked it, I had a stressful full time day job, this night job was a big change of pace. As a new store, everyone except for managers was trained together, before the store opened, we all were busy setting up the shelves and stocking them. After is was opened, I realized that everything was about zoning, they did not care that I had electronic experience and was able to up sell customers and answer questions. they kept transferring me around all the departments, I was actually too good at zoning, I found that I was given more than one department every night, while other departments all had one associate. Biggest problem was that at night, we all had to help everyone else before we got to go home. For those of us who actually worked all night, this was a bad thing. our reward for being fast and efficient was that we had to all go help the idiots who did nothing all night but joke around with their friends. It got to the point that we slowed down so that the idiots had to do a lot of their department work themselves. And then their was the red card and cashier issues. I didn’t try too much to push credit cards, but had to at times. i used to hate when they were slow on cashiers and wanted everyone to run up front and cashier at a drop of a hat. Most of us resented this, feeling that they should hire more dedicated cashiers. it wasn’t that we were making a lot of money, and it would have gone a great way towards customer service. Finally had to quit, i kept getting more and more hours and my part time job was almost a full time one, which I didn’t want.

Ahhhh Target….
I never looked back at this place. In fact, if it weren’t for them firing me, I probably would still be working there, making my good ol’ $7.50 an hour Night differential. Or maybe even get a raise and go to $8.00!
First job I got hired for I don’t even remember what it was called (3rd shift – received truck loads and stocked shelves) because within two weeks, I was asked if I wanted to transfer to Backstocking. This either was their way of getting me off the floor or “promoting me” to a better position. I don’t know and I don’t care. Long story short, I wasn’t completing my tasks within the allotted amount of time granted by the Almighty Computer-generated Timesheet and before the end of my 90 days, my “Employment with Target was Terminated”.
How did I get here?

About two months ago I was contacted by the local Target about my job application and asked to come in for an interview the following day. The interview went very well. They told me that they needed a full time Price Team member to work from 6a-2p or 8a-4p around 5 days a week. I wasn’t too pleased with the hours, but this being my first job, I dealt with it. So, two weeks went by, and I called Target to follow up and they told me they’d have the HR get in contact with me. I called a week later, and they connected me to the HR manager and she said she’d call me the next day and schedule orientation. A week later, I called back. No answer. Nobody could help me. Then, a week later she calls about my job and tells me to come in the next day for orientation. It took OVER A MONTH for them to contact me. Well, I went to orientation. And I started the following week. (A month and a half after interview).
I showed up 10 minutes early for a good “first impression” and rang the door bell and was immediately REAMED and told that I can’t show up that early!

I thought I’d start off by saying that I had quit smoking for about two or three years, but recently I have picked it up again, usually during/after my Target shifts. I honestly think the stress has literally, after my 8-9 months at Target, started to eat into me. I am now becoming emotionally numb. The customers all look the same, the florescent lights glare into my eyes. I am tired of this job. Today I worked a crap shift, Saturday 11-7:30. I am so drained right now and need to spill my guts. But my friend told me today that her job is hiring, and I thought I’d give it a shot. That was one point of light for me today. I can’t do my college homework after working these ridiculously long shifts; I have sleeping trouble. One week I have 30 hours and the next 15; it’s totally erratic.
I have repeatedly inquired to (different) managers about changing departments. They told me ask back in March (when I asked in December), as we have no hours/aren’t hiring the next couple months. Today while by HR I heard the HR representative calling a potential employee about their application, so I know it’s all lies (the day that one manager told me they have no hours/aren’t hiring, I heard the HR person make another call about an application. I couldn’t believe it).

I stand behind all of you out there fed up by the incapable team leads and management more inept then a gold fish to lead staff members. UNIONIZE!!! I am aware how frightening it is to even say the word while at work. The anti-union propaganda; it’s there to keep you from a safe, and happy work environment. I pray the fear tactics will someday stop. Keep notes on your safety issues! Call OSHA and report them. I have done it. They were fined! (Not story that they told….I have the report to prove otherwise!) Give them some frustration….Lord knows they love giving it to us! Spend some time and anonymously report their pain in ass “supervisors.” I pray for all those employees out there that they are not left cripple like I was, because of Target’s management staff my life is forever changed….I post here to encourage you all. The ONLY hope is union, union, union…….UNION!!

That’s right, Target…poop on you. Them’s fightin’ words. I quit Target after 4 1/2 years. I mainly worked in Apparel, since I’m female and Target is sexist. 🙂 I transferred from a high-volume, do-everything-right store…to a low-volume, “What the fuck are we doing?” store. Anyways, long story short, I brought the store from consistent Red visits in Apparel to consistent Green visits. I re-trained existing employees on Brand, culture, POG and Sales Planner building, zoning, etc…. My team lead was a dude….who had NO idea what the hell he was doing. He’d done price accuracy or POG crap…or some such shit in Hardlines his whole “career”. (I put career in quotations, because anyone who considers Target their long-term employment enrichment source is smoking something). Anyways, I quit January 21st, and so obviously there was no longer anyone there to fix his fuck-up’s. Well, his visits went from good to “What the hell happened?”. He was transferred out of Apparel and back into Hardlines for being a screw up from Hell, and some other dipshit who has no idea what he’s doing has been put there instead.
I love this story because I was under-appreciated and taken advantage of while I was there. I fixed my Team Lead’s massive fuck ups for him daily, while he got pats on the back every visit by our DTL who didn’t even know my name…although I was the one rocking out with my metaphorical cock out.
Now they see what a dumbass this dude is and gave him the boot back to Hardlines. I just love it. And I love not having to ever walk back in there and see that stupid-ass Spot. Ugh…I hate that dog.
