It All Went Downhill The Day I Was Hired

As a loyal Targé customer, I thought a job here would be so fun. I loved that Target was so inclusive with its TMs and always moving forward with branding, etc. After applying a few times and going through a few other jobs, I finally got a call back from a store in my area (not my usual spot, but the next closest). I was so excited, I knew I would nail the interview and my foolish dreams would come true. I should have run with those first bad vibes I got but I was desperate to leave my old job. I had the usual phone interview and was promised the job from the softlines TL but had to wait for my in-person and was told I’d be called the next day. A week went by without a peep and I had to begin calling everyday, trying to find someone from HR to schedule my interview but there was literally no one around at any time. Finally had my in-person, nailed it and was so excited to start as a cashier. I was told to put in my two weeks at my other job so I happily did. Big mistake. I did not hear a thing from Target about my orientation for a MONTH. Yes, 4 whole weeks. I started to wonder if I had dreamt the interviews or had misheard the job offer. I began calling quite often and never had my calls returned or was told they were, “waiting to hear from payroll”, whatever that means.

I’ll give some of my two cents…

I just found this website today after coming home from work… let’s guess… target. Anyways it’s awesome to hear your stories and everything although I have noticed how very different the target I work at is a bit different. I would start of by saying, hell the fuck yeah I hate working at target. What department am I in you may ask? SOFTLINES. Yes softlines, *sigh* I would start off by also saying that I hate guests, mostly the old bitchy know it all people.

    i absolutely HATE target

So I’ve worked at an Australian Target for the past 2 years and let me tell you it’s been hell from the start of my first shift.

I never decided to actually post about this hell hole until now, however I frequently scroll through here before my shifts to make me feel like my anger towards going to work and dealing with all the shit thrown at me is shared, which makes me feel slightly less alone about my hateful thoughts and feelings towards this place.

    Seasonal Employee Training Rant

I just started a seasonal position in hardlines (I think. They said hardlines but all my training has been in softlines.) I overheard one of my other team members say they minimized the training for seasonal employees, but my training almost seems nonexistent. The only decent training I had was on registrars, and the other trainers just hand me stuff to reshop for them. The day after my first day they had me work a full shift without a trainer, but I was so confused and I honestly didn’t know what I was doing. My other team members always seem annoyed when I ask for help. This is my first job too.

  • Lets set the scene.

-Disclaimer to any of my Softline TM or the guy in the backroom who quit right before I did. You guys were the best TM ever. Fuck the higher ups.-

I’m 18, a full time student, and worked at the busiest, and richest(meaning guests were hella rich), Target in my area. I’m talking Tiger Woods, Shaq, and owner of all the West Gate Resorts kind of rich(he’s building the biggest family home in america. 52 bathrooms big). I get it your RICH! But you don’t have to be so mean or creepy(we’ll get to that in a bit). This was my second job, first in retail. I don’t know if all retail is like this, but if it is, I don’t ever want to do retail again.

This has bothered me for years…

I have been at Target for 2 1/2 years back in electronics. Something I don’t understand is – why can’t we use our employee discounts with debit/credit cards that aren’t redcards? I find it completely ridiculous! Not everyone wants a fucking REDCARD!! It drive sales blah blah blah makes Target look good blah blah blah. You know what would make Target look good? Fire.

    “Safety First!”

So I’ve worked at Target on overnight flow for less than a month. It’s basically my first job (aside from a brief training phase at Jimmy John’s which ended in termination because the store’s labor count was too high). Like most of the stories, I thought the job would be good esp for a first time employee and the pay’s really gorgeous. On paper, anyway.

Took Ten Years of My Life

I have sat here and read almost five pages of these blogs. I seriously thought I was the only person who felt this way.

For ten years I worked at two different Target stores. Working at the first one was great. We had an excellent ETL Team, Team Leads and Store manager. There were always there to help. THe second one eh!

  • So I was hired as a “Full-Time” Overnight Flow Team Member at the Super Target #2220 in Norman Oklahoma. I quickly realized that Target’s definition of “Full-Time” is 20 – 25 hours per week. WTF? Thanks a lot for telling me during the interview so I could have politely said “Fuck no I can’t live off of $8K per year!” Oh, but wait…I forgot Target loves to supplement your poverty wage with get benefits like a free cupcake or honeybun in the break-room. Due to the insanely low hours you will be scheduled you will likely never see any real benefits (401K, sick time. etc.)  materialize working for Target, so Invest your break-room junk food wisely!
