Hate my job
I don’t really have an issue with the guests. I get 1-4 redcards a night but I do it more because I like to help guests, and SOMETIMES they give us free electronics movies (or rare cases they give you any item from electronics and once I grabbed a $14.99 skylander and have a bunch of freebie $5 movies) but none of this has to do with my issue. I’m autistic so I tend to be very specific in how I interact with most guests, and I tell jokes like “I see you bought some alchohol, well I don’t have to wish you a good night, you’ve planned ahead, but make sure the next morning isn’t so bad” and people laugh, I tell people “If you subscribe to Playstation Plus instead of buying this game you can get it for free, and like 15 other games” and so the guests really aren’t my issue.
My issue is with the indentured servitude bullshit. My issue is with them acting like we owe them something because they pay us a MIRACULOUS 50 cents or maybe a dollar or 2 above the federal minimum wage based on circumstances, and you have a chance to get like 15-30 cents raise maybe or what ever. Tonight was a huge straw and I was seeing red, punching walls, and nearly flipped my vehicle I was so angry. I was scheduled from 6:00 p.m. to 12:00 a.m. and then scheduled from 9:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and then they had the balls to keep us an hour and a half late.
I ended up taking a break without telling the LOD because fuck them. I’d been there for 7 hours I’m getting my damn break. So I get home at almost 2:00 a.m. and I’m supposed to be back in 7 hours? On top of that I have a problem with my ankle because I can’t afford health care.
I can’t really afford to call in because my hours are generally shit. You know, 20-30 hour range. Sometimes I get more, but in order to get reasonable hours you either have to be a favorite or you have to have crazy ass shifts like what I’m scheduled. Well I’m gonna call in anyway even though I can’t make ends meet, because I don’t have much of a choice. I’m not going to be wake for 24 hours just because they treat us like animals.
Fuck Target they are ranked just a few points behind Wal-Mart and they have the balls to have a sign on the wall that says “Target intends to be the greatest place to work” which you know is complete and utter bullshit because they could at least pay a living wage if that were true.
Instead what they would rather do is find out how much stuff has been stolen and then take it out on the employees by cutting hours. Thanks now we have fewer people around to prevent theft with. So now theft will be even higher since employees are getting cut. How about if we just chop some bonuses and salaries of the people who run the Target every time something is stolen huh? I bet theft would drop to almost nothing at that point.
I don’t want to call it slavery since we’re not forced to work there, we’re not being raped, and we don’t get beaten within an inch of our lives and then die 3 days later. So let’s not go crazy and call it slavery. However servitude? I think that’s close enough and describes the bullshit just about fairly.

The reason they cut salaries to offset the loss from theft is to make sure management gets their bonuses. Their bonuses are based on P&L (profit & loss), so if they don't hit the right percentage, they don't get as big a bonus. By cutting hours they make up money for the loss and increase their bonus. Yet another way they make it harder for you to earn a livable wage.
