What to expect out of target. The Seasonal Review

Right off the bat ill be completely honest, i only worked at Target for 2 1/2 almost 3 months so, people who have worked there longer than i have, good on you. The fact is i have worked shitty establishments like Best Buy (which to be fair wasn’t all that bad, just my location was a horrible store.) and other places that are retail stores with bad notoriety.

    UNFAIR TREATMENT

I initially was employed by Target as a seasonal team member in softlines and occasionally cashiering. I got the interview and job just by walking in and handing them my application, they were desperate for employees. It was my first job ever so I was a little nervous to begin working in such a hectic atmosphere. My first shift was cashiering on a busy saturday before halloween. They did the whole “training” process with me, which was basically handing me a booklet and telling me to “figure it out”. After sitting at the training cash register for 30 minutes, I was told by my LOD to try it out for real. He assured me he would shadow me and help me out. Sounds good right? Well, after I checked out my first guest I look behind me and he took off! I was stuck there with no training on how to get the damn security cases of the video games. I didn’t know anyone there so I just preyed them open with my bare hands. I had no clue what red cards were, but they forced me to try to sell them. One guest spilled bleach all over the belt and I was yelled at for it, on my first day, with no training on handling chemicals.

A question to former employees about W-2s

So I haven’t worked at Target in close to a year now. It’s a long story for those of you who are new to this site but long story short it’s a very stupid reason. It was a blessing in disguise though. Anyways tax season is upon us. I’d like to get a head start on filing my taxes so I can go back to school and earn my degree I was working hard for. I am very determined to go back, but filing a FAFSA requires tax info from the previous year. So Id like to know from former employees if they got their final W2 from Target on time or if Target was a bully about it. I know it is illegal to not give a former employee their W2 but Target strikes me as the type of company that would be a bully about it and mail it to you late or worse.

  • SO, I think I was almost fired because I asked for a leave to deal with some personal crap that I had to take care of. I made sure all but ONE shift was taken care of, which I told them I couldnt take because it went against my availability, and that’s ILLEGAL (which I didnt mention). So, I go visit a freind and when I come back I call Tarshit asking wtf they wanted. My manager asks me to come in, which could have easily have been discussed over the phone. I look like shit as it is- it was right after Christmas and the holidays are what causes family conflict. Anyhoo, she finally approves my leave in front of HR AND then asks me why I need it.

    Hook Line and Sinker

I made a post earlier about a few weeks or a month ago about target and i decided to be silent due to the fact that i was in my “freshman year phase” of target meaning i just started out at seasonal and had my gripes.

Well, here is my ultimate shit list for target.

I have worked my ass off for Target royally because frankly, i liked the job, i loved dealing with electronics even though they kept throwing me in Toys time and time again but, the people i worked with made the job enjoyable and i befriended nearly everybody i met.

    FUCK THIS SHIT

So I was hired as a seasonal cashier at Target for the holidays. I had time off school and figured I could use the extra money. They made it sound like working there would be fine and dandy and you had a good chance of being kept after the season ended. Fucking liars. They don’t train you!! Just stick you on a register in training mode and hand you a little book along with fake checks and cards to train yourself. And, naturally, because you’re on a register the “guests” ask you if you’re open. Like, hello?! Is my light on?! Then NO IM NOT. Then you get thrown on a register and hope for the best. Now some people are pretty damn understanding when you’re new and trying to figure out what you’re doing. I apologized about a billion times in my first week or so because nobody teaches you how to process WIC checks, when you request change it takes FOREVER for the GSTL/LOD to bring you your change 99% of the time, and no one bothers to train you at all its more like: here you go good luck and blink your light if you need me. Blink the light and they STILL take forever to get to you. A “guest” asks for a manager but the operator won’t call a manager for you, they call whoever the hell they can get to help you.

  • I’ve now worked as a cart attendant for around 15 months at my local cart attendant, well I continue to take classes at a local community college. I’ve never taken the “trainer” test but I guess I’m the trainer, glorious pic and all.

I’m not going to say that the job asks for too much. With some effort, I give dam good handoffs EVERYTIME and being a cart attendant, the day just FLIES by.

What I will say, is that people who have NEVER worked a day of cart attendant in their life, telling you what you need to take care of, or expecting you to find the time to complete everything asked to perfection is NONSENSICAL.

  • My husband was hired on with Target for seasonal work October 21, 2014. He was on  the flow team. Then they had him working flow in the mornings and then electronics. He was promoted to a full time employee. His full time started January 1st, 2014. He was 2 hours & 15 minutes late to work on the 21st of December, but he showed up and worked two hours over his scheduled time like his LOD told him to do. He got let go today becaue of it. That was his only “no call no show” according to their policies. What can he do?!

  • Okay, I came across this page attempting to get on to eHR to find my schedule. I will agree eHR sucks and 9 times out of 10 I just have to go into the store to look at my schedule.

But seriously folks, creating a page to bash Target? Yes it sucks.  It’s supposed to suck.  It’s retail.  Working at Target is either meant to be a job for high schoolers and college students to make a little money on the side; or for someone who has been laid off and is in between jobs.

    Cart Attendant’s rant

So i started working at target 4 months ago, and for the most part I don’t mind being a cart attendant despite the work load. I really only have 2 complaints, first are bathroom checks.  Being that they refuse to hire a girl cart attendant, busy days means it’s literally impossible to clean the women’s bathroom for us. It’s not uncommon for me to spend 20 minutes to get into the bathroom just to pick up toilet paper and press the button.
