Target Sucks - We Hate Target and We Know We're Not Alone.

    So long Target, you bitch

As predicted I have been “let go” at the end of the season despite always showing up for work, never making any trouble, always being on time, always being polite to the “guest,” and complying with all of the ridiculous demands of the TLs, GSAs, GSTLs, LODs and everyone else with a power complex and nothing better to do then harass the other team members. I can’t say I’m too sad to have been let go though, because honestly this has to have been one of the worst job experiences I have ever had.

I loved knowing that every time I went into work somebody else was going to get on my ass for not following a rule for a job that I had never been trained on. I also loved knowing that all the team leads and GSTL’s were going to treat me like I was a moronic misbehaving child in front of the customers despite having done nothing wrong. Watching all of the team leads and their favorite team members get together and make fun of the other team members like they were still in fucking middle school was always a treat. And it’s great that my competency was what made the team leads hate me but also give me all the extra tasks at the same time.

An experience from a soon to be former employee

I started at Target in Feb of 2011. I applied for the job because my girlfriend and I decided to move in together. When I first started everything was seriously perfect. I was just a simple cashier, working a relaxed schedule because of my schooling, and I adored the 2 GSTL’s.  So as the months flew by, both of the above mentioned TL’s left and one of the GSA’s…I was a little torn up but I knew that they were only doing what was in their best interest. They quickly filled the spots for the GSTL’s, but then the former GSA said she REALLLY wanted me to take her spot. In the time I had started they trained me at the service desk and I would often cover their breaks and lunches (more on this later), so the idea of it seemed cool to me and I liked the thought of being “somewhat” in charge. Basically, they really made the job seem wonderful. I was about to realize what a mistake it was accepting GSA..   First of all, I want any cashiers thinking about wanting to be a GSA to understand something. You essentially do everything that a GSTL (a team leader) does except coach cashiers and do a shitload of paperwork. However, you are not paid ANYWHERE close to what they are paid. One of the GSTL’s at my store makes over $15/hr…I make $8.25. That’s literally almost half of what someone else makes to do almost the exact same job! To be fair, that GSTL DOES have a degree and is very intelligent…but try to decide in your head if you really think the expectations and duties of a GSA are worth such a low wage. Remember, you do pretty much everything a GSTL would do.

    But that’s not all!

  • I started working at Super Target in Lee’s Summit, MO 2 weeks ago.  I was informed today at the start of the morning that I was getting moved from seasonal to full-time, days.  I said okay.  I haven’t missed a day nor have I ever been late.  I’ve never refused to stay late to help them close either.   I was always on task, 100% of the time.   I came in at 5 in the morning.  On different days I stayed until 1:30 in the morning.  It didn’t surprise me I was getting moved to full-time, how many people are willing to get paid $9.00 an hour and work any varied monkey shift you throw at them?

Then, about 2 pm, another manager told me the 29th would be my last day.  I said, oh really, what is going on?  He said, well, you know, when you were hired you were hired as seasonal and that is ending.  I said, okay, but today another manager told me I was going full-time, days.  He said, well, um here, Derek in HR gave me this letter to give you.  I said, ok, and opened it up.  It just said the 29th was my last day and thanks for all your hard work, it was a form letter.  It didn’t give a reason for termination.  I said to the guy, come on, be straight with me, never missed a day, never late, what gives?  The guy just started making awkward sounds with his voice, which I instantly read to be “I know but I can’t tell you”.  I didn’t throw a fit and went back to work for the remainder of my shift.

  • I’m starting to wonder if this is how they promote at my fucking piece of shit store. LOD #1::” Hey, see that lazy ass looking mother fucker over there?” LOD #2:”Yeah, what about him?” LOD #1: “Well, see how he is standing there doing nothing and scratching his ass, and picking his nose? I think he might be a good candidate to be our next TL over in Hard Lines.” I swear, this place is a fucking joke and I seriously think this is how they actually decide to do the promotions since I have yet to see ANY Team Lead or LOD EVER do any ACTUAL WORK. The fact that these lazy mother fuckers can stand around and bitch to everyone about how no one is working harder or faster is beyond me. Hey dumbfucks, how about getting out on the sales floor and do some actual “hard” work (we all know that the concept of this is an oxymoron to the LOD’s at Target) so that we know just what the fuck you are all talking about. There are 2 new team members at work there, and I swear, 1 of them is a child molester, and the other 1 acts like he belongs in a mental health care facility, but there are both buddy buddy with the GSTL, so I know they are both going to be the next 2 people to get the promotions.  I clocked into work one day and just jumped on a register, and this is pretty much my scenario every shift: GSTL:”So, how many RED cards have you gotten today?” Now, at this point, I don’t even fucking care about getting fucken RED cards anymore because they don’t treat me with any type of respect whatsoever, so I figure, since they all want to ass rape me and not have the decency to at least lube up first, then I can at least return the favor to them by fucking them over in whatever way I can. Me:”Me? None, I just clocked in 30 seconds ago.” GSTL:”Exactly, I expected you to already have 237 by now, and 5 minutes from now, I want you to at least have 1369 RED cards, we gotta make the quota.” Oooooooooooooohhhh, Whoopdie-Fucking-Doo, the quota.

  • There is a few and I mean very few good things I will say about Target, as a GUEST not as a over worked employee. I will admit, Targets items, clothing, decor, the Archer Farms brand, and the seasonal area are the things that I do like. Their things are just different and stand out, better to decorate my home with. Enough of that praise they do not deserve.

Admitting again, I worked for Walmart before I worked for Target. Why did I leave Walmart? I moved in with my fiance, who was or is rather going to school in a different state at the time. I thought he only had a year left, I thought I can be strong and live without him for a year. I took it as a test of our relationship at first because I was ok going to see him and such but 6 hour drive can be expensive every month. 100 dollars average gas only. That is a lot of money that I could have saved. Anyway, I left Walmart because for the life of me I could not get a transfer to any of the 4 surrounding Walmarts there. None were taking transfers, I tried this run around with them for 3 solid months, calling, holding forever, getting hung up on, even physically making a trip to talk to the HR and still nothing! That is the ONLY reason I left, I had no choice but to venture out and find something else before I wanted to move.

So I landed at Target, at first I could only think, finally a job now I can move and get on with our lives. I have been here for a month maybe a little more. My first few days were not like how some of the stories on here are, they start out something along the lines of at first everything was going good. Not for me it wasn’t, the total opposite it was. I work in softlines, which is anything on the carpet. Including all clothing, shoes, baby basics (diapers, car seats, formula, and such) and accessories/jewelry.

  • So I made it to two months of employment at this hell hole of a store.

I was hired in October as a deli production team member. This is where the bullshit begins. I had applied as a cashier but was convinced to accept a deli position under the impression (lying by omission) that this position was not seasonal and was full time. Later on I was informed that basically “everyone is seasonal since you all start on a 90 day probation”. Fair enough. Little do they tell you that’s just code for they can fire you for any and no reason.

I took the position and was assured if I felt uncomfortable I could always ask to change my department. Okay, great. Not. They began to work me to death immediately. Long days. Many days in a row. Little days off. i thought things were going well. I was working the same pace as my peers. I was happy. Then I got my performance review. I was told I was “too slow” and “not engaging the guests enough” but that if I improved i stood a chance. So I tried harder. I thought things were going well.

approximately one month after my hire I found out I was expecting. My fiance and i were overjoyed. Still are. I told my coworkers and my leaders. Then i got called in for coaching. Once again the “you’re too slow” speech. I told my lead that i was fatigued because im pregnant. I was assured that she would help me and find me a department where i would he able to take it easy until my baby was born.

Fast Fun and Friendly, my ass

So I took a part time job at Target for some extra holiday money . I figured since I shopped there pretty frequently, having an extra discount would come in handy . Let me also preface the rest of this by saying I’m a 40 year old with a degree and and have worked my fair share of bullshit jobs in my life . Unfortunately nothing could have prepared me for the soul sucking black hole that is Target . The first few weeks weren’t so bad . The pay completely sucked but I was being paid to pull merchandise forward . A fucking monkey could do my job . But then, shit changed as the weeks went on . The one thing I learned real fast was that if you actually do a decent job at work, you’ll end up doing all the hard tasks they don’t want to give to the other lazy fuckwits. Great. I get to work twice as hard for the same pay. Who wouldn’t want that sweet deal?

Next up . The awesome LOD’ s . Seriously, what a bunch of incompetent, rude, corporate lackeys. I actually had one of mine tell me “Less talk, more work” while customers, I mean “guests” were right in earshot . Seriously, you twat? Who the fuck talks to someone like that? Oh, I’m sorry . God forbid I derive any pleasure whatsoever from this job . It’s almost like they’re trying to weed out the non obedient sheep from the herd by being such complete dicks. You want respect from me? How about treating me with some respect asshole. Maybe it’s because when time for recognition comes around I never open my mouth . Take your Vibe cards and shove them up your ass too.

    OH TARGET!

“Hate” is such a strong word but lots of bulls eye people(current and past team members) truly hate Target from the cart attendant who has to clean up that guest’s shit and piss in the rest room before he can find time to wipe his own ass to the cashier who puts up with these ignorant lying disrespectful  customers to the sales floor team member who is sometimes robbed of his breaks because he is the only one in Hardlines. “Can I help you find something?” Bitch please. Give it a rest already. I need my fucking  break! If you think slavery is abolished think again!! Think TARGET!!! Working at some of our local area Targets is like working in the cane fields in Africa. You see, the heating and cooling systems are horrendous–well fuck it no cooling really the stores are just plain HOT! ALL YEAR ROUND! Worst yet for the cart attendants who has to face the heat outside and then inside the store at summer time Team members and guests alike are bitching and complaining!

    The Mega Bitch

I have had some infuriating ETLs in the past, but none as bad as Mega-Bitch we’ll call her. She transferred to my store late September-early October and my life in Hardlines has become a living hell. Now, I’m sure I’m not the only one who becomes the ETLs punching bag bot God damn! enough is enough! Big flipping whoop if I take a few bathroom breaks during my shift and who the balls cares if I don’t respond to the lanes or call boxes quick enough. IT’S. STILL. GETTING. DONE! And now vicariously through my team leader she has the gall to threaten my job and his if I don’t turn things around? well forget that! I’m not going to give that cock-juggling thunder cunt the satisfaction of firing me! Once the holidays are over I’m outta there and hopefully on to somewhere employees are treated fairly.
