Okay, horror is only a slight overstatement.
But let me tell you something. Target is one of my favorite places to shop. Believe it or not, they have a lot of cool sh*t. I figured, Oh yeeeeah Target is so cool I could totally work there and it would be sooooo coooool yeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaahhhhh. I’d gut punch my former if time travel ever allowed me to.
It started off fine, the phone interview was good, the one-on-one interview was great… There weren’t any red flags, basically. Training was good… And then I noticed the other employees. I have NEVER gotten so many dirty looks and fake smiles in my entire life. Like, what?! Do you guys know me or something? Did I steal your man or???? But that’s something I learned to overcome back in high school. (Which, by the way was only a year ago.) I’ve matured at least a little more than they obviously haven’t… So I accepted it. Okay, I’m not gonna have many friends here. Whatever, as long as I still get paid.

First, just wanna holla out to all my Fitting Room/Operators out there! It is a tough gig that everyone thinks is easy! Boy, am I OVER it!
Anyway, I work at (and have been since June) a Target in California and naturally as the rest of the country is approaching winter and getting snow, it is raining like CRAZY here. And OH am I SICK of hearing people ask/complain about nonexistent rain gear. I even had this older dude go off on me with some tirade about how he doesn’t understand why Target doesn’t have winter gear (in my head I heard “winter”) and that he’s gonna tell all his friends and family not to go to Target to get “winter” gear because there isn’t any. And that if at a meeting we might have (as if we hold any kind of meetings at Target) if I could speak up on his behalf (as if I, a bottom of the food chain worker have any say in anything) and maybe mention getting some “winter” gear AKA RAIN gear because California does not have winter. I cannot tell you how many times I’ve tried to explain the concept of “seasonal” to people. Like, NO we don’t have fucking bathing suits in November (but actually just wait ’til this week ’cause apparently they’re coming).

I worked at a Canadian Target store for about 3 months, even though I actually found this site and read quite a bit of it first, I have had a lot of retail and sales experience, and I knew what I was doing and did a good job, it did not matter, I still got treated like garbage. Some of the people were nice, but some them were definitely not. The people that were not nice got paid more.
Target is basically a psychopath magnet from what I can see, it is a perfect environment for them, almost like it was meant to be or something. People who play shitty drama games, supplicate to their leaders, stab others in the back and generally act like a fucking greasy snake do fine and get treated well, people who put up with being treated like crap get bullied. The managers talk a lot but basically do nothing, I could not believe that they were getting paid what they were to do what they were doing. It was really pathetic, and as easy and simple as it was, they were fucking terrible at it.

So I was recently employed by Target for about 3 weeks. When they called me I was ecstatic that after all the places I applied to, I got a call back from the place I really wanted to work at. It was pretty good at first until I was recently fired before Black Friday. I filled out the application for part time employment. After getting my schedule I saw that they scheduled me for 7-8 hours a day. I told them I could not do it due to me being in college. They kept scheduling me on days where I said I could not work. Second problem, I walked into work one day and the LOD said she needed to talk to me. In my mind I’m like ok what did I do wrong. She tells me that I was scheduled to work Thanksgiving and that I did not show up, so she said they had to let me go. Even after I told her I checked my schedule five times and it said I had that day off.

This is my first job and the experience started off great until the dreaded Black Friday made its arrival. I’ve been working at target for almost 2 months, as a cashier, and I am well over the honeymoon phase. Gone are the days of ease and peace. Why do we have to worship these crazed customers? I know it is Black Friday, but why do these people leave behind their humanity? They become animals focused on their precious products and they act vicious for a measly50-100 dollar price cut. Why must their word be gold? I hate the use of giving a cashier empowerment because we are giving a customer the power to change the price of a discounted item(s). I feel this is an unfair act because the other customers that read the promotional signs correctly don’t get an additional discount. I will not call these people guest and treat them like my friends and family. These people are so unworthy of such royal treatment.

I waited patiently till 6pm eastern time on Thanksgiving to place my target.com order for the advertised 40 inch TV which was ON THE COVER of their black friday ad only to find out that it is not available. I called the online customer service and spoke with supervisor “George” who admitted to me that no only did the NEVER HAVE this tv in stock but he has no idea when it will come off of back order. How can they advertise something that they never had? I asked him this and he said “Look at this price if I could buy it I would but I cant”. He said he couldnt give me a raincheck since it was a black friday sale item nor could he back order it for me or even put a hold on one for me.
What a scam.

First off; this website is fucking amazing.
Okay so after being hired on as seasonal overnight it came quickly that only Mexicans work at this bitch; making me the minority. Anyone offended by this chill out im just saying; so all the girls can talk and take their sweet ass time but if i even ask another guy how his days going i get sent to another aisle. Like what the fuck? they ride my ass when i get aisles done like a mother fucker. I didn’t mind this shit job at first until i realized the management was shit and after getting yelled at for something new every other night that they should have trained me on but guess what! i got no fucking training; yeah fuck you target you cock suckers. Well at this point i say fuck it im gonna quit im not that desperate and this was really fucking over my schooling honestly.

So I worked for target in a hardlines position for a good 3 months only to be fired two days before my ninety days was up. While California is an at will employment state they don’t need a reason. They need even less while in your ninety days. From day one my boss had a vendetta against me. She consistently gave me three departments to cover usually toys hba and sporting goods. Toward the end of my shift she would bring everyone over to point of things I did wrong and have everyone fix my horrible zone. When she fired me i asked for a reason why and she gave me the arbitrary reason of “I just feel like this job isn’t a good fit for you.” later do I find out that my executive team lead didn’t even know she wanted to fire me and that HR said if she wanted me gone she would have to be the one to do it.

I took my position as a Food Ave. team member with high hopes, and an expectation of 25 hours or LESS to cover gas money and minor expenses. I am a part time worker, after all. However, I have never worked less than 35-37 hours a week, while the full timers are complaining about no hours and referring to the swap shift board like its the Bible. Of course this has sent my grades down the shitter, and created a ripple effect throughout the rest of my personal life–all for that paycheck of barely 500 bi-weekly.

I started working at Target about 4 months ago and at first I thought it was going pretty well. I was doing what I needed and got along with pretty much everyone. I don’t even know when things started going downhill. This past month has been pure hell on Earth. The LOD’s expect so much out of you it’s ridiculous. I work in hardlines and it isn’t too awful, but we are expected to be working on our zones, do pulls, work returns, go for backup cashier, help guests in person and on the phones/call buttons. This one TL is such a douche, he doesn’t even do anything but gloat about how awesome he is while he can’t even finish his zone on time. He goes on walkie and tells everyone what to do like he’s the LOD, I can’t stand him. When we are working on pulls or zones, they yell at us for not working on returns, then when we start working on those, we get bitched at for not clearing the line…wtf do they want me to do first?
