Not so much against Target, but ignorance from the guests.
I am so sick of people pointing the finger at Target because of the data breach. Target did not do it; a group of criminals hacked the system and leaked the information. It was also not the only store that this happened to. It happened to Neiman and Marcus as well.
I am sick of people coming to me at guest services and being like ‘”because YOU GUYS stole my identity” and pointing their finger at me. No we didn’t. And don’t tell me you understand that when I tell you “It wasn’t the store, it was a group of criminals that hacked the system” because if you did you would not get up in my face and say YOU GUYS because you would understand that we didn’t exactly jump for joy when we found out this happened because we knew we would get blamed for it. We just work for the stores and for the record, employees were also affected. Target takes security very seriously and is doing everything they can to fix this. Blaming the stores for this is ignorant so just stop. For fucks sake.

Speaking of ignorant, you're an ignorant cunt if you think a company isn't responsible for safeguarding confidential data. The reason it only happened here and allegedly those other companies you mentioned, is because most other companies take the necessary precautions to safeguard the data. You better wise up, or you'll never get a better job than the shithole you work in.
I've said it before and I'll say it again.. TARGET IS RESPONSIBLE. Why? Because what did Target do when they were hacked? Tell the public so they could monitor their credit card usage and defend themselves against theft? NOPE. Target waited until KREBSONSECURITY, a BLOG, broke the story. Then when the cat was out of the bag, Target FINALLY said on FaceBook "We are aware of unauthorized use on guests' credit cards. We will continue to monitor this blah blah blah" what kind of fucking public statement is that? Target didn't reveal the breach to the public for the sole reason that it would damage CHRISTMAS SALE REVENUE. Do you fucking get that? They put fucking 110 million+ customers (yes I said 110 millionPLUS) people at risk just so Target wouldn't take a plummet in sales. It isn't Target's fault they got hacked, or so we can assume; it is, however, Target's fault for not telling the public when they clearly knew ahead of time. And before you say "well maybe they didn't know" they should have. What kind of fucking internal security do they have where that type of information isn't monitored? But anyway OP I will agree with you the guests are fucking stupid for saying that "IT'S YOUR FAULT" it makes me so fucking mad. I had nothing to do with it, my co-workers had nothing to do with it, my LOD had nothing to do with it, my TL, ETL, GSTL, none of us were involved. It's like, why the fuck are you mad at me as a US civilian for what the crew of the Enola Gay did to Japan? What the fuck did I have to do with it? Also what the fuck does it matter that Neiman and Marcus was hacked too? Has nothing to do with Tarshit.
next time tell them it's the customers fault for being so damned stubborn about embracing change that the united states is behind everyone in credit card technology
And the reason why hackers are targeting target. Because it's so danged easy to hack an old fashioned system
How does the card tech affect data storage? It was the data that was breached... More importantly than the tech issues, the predatory credit card policies and practices are what really needs to be changed in this country.
I blame the guests. They are the ones who are being so stubborn it's not even funny. Nooo! I don't want emv chips I like my magnetic swipe cards! I don't want people to steal my data. Wake up and smell the coffee, your data just got stolen.
It really is time for a credit card change. We're using technology from the 50's for fuck's sake lol.
Late 1980s, but who's counting.
Yeah, I definitely need to disagree with your vendetta here. Data storage is the reason this breach happened. There's also numerous issues with your chip card system that allows other types of hacks, for example: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/EMV#2010:_Hidden_hardware_disables_PIN_checking_on_stolen_card
Sure it can be done but with such easy systems to hack, it's a no brainer they would target us chains.
Target sucks!
Target should be responsible for this…but I think the point should be made that guests should not take their frustrations out on the employees whose only job is to ring up your shit and stock the shelves.
If you can't trust this store, don't shop here. If you can't trust our system, pay in cash. But don't come up to me and blame me for corporate's shortcomings.
I don't have all the answers. They have mentioned it to me only twice…once to admit it happened, and second to say not to bring it up to guests…so I have no fucking idea what is going on.
Given the poor security of the states i'm better off opening a special account just for us shopping with only a couple hundred in it. Or have chase deal with it for me via one of their two no forex fee ccs.
