HR is a joke
Worked at target some years ago, but re reading some stories made me want to share my horrible experience with Target HR. Keep in mind this is the same guy in both stories.
1. The time I got sexually harassed at work.
At the time I was a 19 year old girl working in electronics . I was used to the usual creeper here and there, but I never expected it from a co worker. Now this guy worked for Target mobile and was about 45 at the time, and with a son about my age. One day he decided to ask me out, out of the blue. I politely declined citing the age difference and that I just had no interest. Then he decided after that day to always comment on how I looked when we had shifts together and would explicitly tell me how he was dating other girls my age and how weird it was to meet their dads because they were his age. He also continued tell me that I shouldn’t have a problem dating him because other girls my age were doing it.
Well I got sick of this and I went to my HR, where my HR manager tells me there’s nothing he can do because the harasser works for target mobile and target mobile is a separate company where target has no jurisdiction. So their solution? Keep the target mobile guy and move the girl to a different department where she has to take a pay cut because the electronics position paid more.
This was all before the #metoo movement but thinking about this some time later still gets my blood boiling.
2. The time AP ETL and Hardlines ETL couldn’t make their minds up on electronics stocking and would tell employees contradictory things then yell at them for doing what the other one said. When HR was aproached by 2 electronics employees with the issue responded with “I don’t know what you want me to do about it”.
AP ETL wanted us to only put out one Xbox / PlayStation on an unsecured end cap at a time. Meaning the item was spiderwrapped but guests could take it with them around the store and purchase it up front. We were in a bad area of town so it made sense. Hardlines ETL wanted to make sure everything looked full and just wanted to “sell” the product. He would tell us that we should stock shelves to the brim with these types of products even if we didn’t have the security for it. Well we would be constantly getting in trouble with both parties because there was never a “right” way to do it. So another electronics employee and I went to HR with the issue where we literally got the quote “I don’t know what you want me to do about it”. I literally looked him in the eye and said “you’re HR. Your job is to deal with situations like these” and he simply says “ I guess I’ll look into it”.
and those of you wondering if he looked into it…. he didn’t. The back and forth didn’t end until one of the ETLs transferred.
TLDR: Got sexually harassed at work by Target Mobile, was told there was nothing HR could do because target mobile was a separate company.
HR refused to mediate expectations between AP and Hardlines ETLs.

I’m sorry about what happened to you no one deserves to be sexually harassed. Hr is fucking useless they don’t give a shit about anyone!!!!
I actually get along with my HR, but he also doesn't really do much of anything. I kind of want his job, he gets actual hours.
Omg! Our target mobile guy was super creepy too, he called our girls "little cunts" behind their backs and would always find an excuse to talk to them even if they worked on the other side of the store. I reported him to the store manager so many fucking times before he left the company and on his last day I literally saw him catcall a woman IN THE STORE IN FRONT OF HER KID. To my knowledge they didn't take any disciplinary actions and went back to his old job that paid more.
Sorry to hear that you went through this. Some guys can be fucking assholes and creeps. Some of them can be the best friend that you never knew you had. I hope you end up with someone who is not a creep and is an understanding strong guy who can handle any challenge thrown at him. I would look into switching jobs if you haven’t already. Try looking for a job which you can enjoy and spend time exploring who you are. Thank you for sharing your experience as I am sure it will be beneficial to many.
