    Quitting Target after 2 months

Firstly, I want to say that the management at Target is a complete fucking joke. There was only one TL that I actually liked and the rest can shove it up their asses.

I was hired the first of March to be a DBO. I was told I’d be working about 20 hours a week (as I had requested because I only wanted a part time job) and I would be receiving training for a week.

Fast forward to my first shift after ONE day of computer training and I was being thrown into Inbound. Imagine my surprise upon seeing a fucking 4am shift scheduled when I was told I would be working afternoon shifts for DBO. I shrugged it off until I noticed I had been scheduled for 9 consecutive work days with fucking SHITTY hours. I worked 4 am to 12 pm and then went to work at 9 am and worked until 6 pm only to come in at 3:30 am the next day.

    My Time At Target

First off, I was fired almost 4 years ago and it was the best thing Target ever did for me. But that’s not what this is about. I mostly just wanna share a few things that happened during my 2 years working in that shithole. It’s gonna be long, so prepare yourself.

I was hired Backroom when I first started there. Other than my shift starting at 4 A.M. I enjoyed the work. Just pulling and backstocking. Kept me busy. I even started enjoying starting so early after a while because the store was empty for at least half of my shift. I got along with most of my coworkers in the backroom. I especially liked my TL. We were about the same age, both enjoyed comics and video games. We got along well. He was also super nice, very helpful, and got the job done. I was actually enjoying my job.

Target and the proper Covid-19 Guidelines

Apologies if the Google preview is misleading.  I’m paranoid about it, as well as my sarcasm.

I worked for a location that was getting worse with each year.  Also, I have years of experience working there, but they’re gonna reach Amazon levels of bad soon.

I noticed over time that Target is deciding not to follow state guidelines anymore.  The store capacity shrank for the first part of Covid.  People stood outside and we called them in.  Magically, the capacity increased by a fair margin, despite restrictions for the area pretty much staying in place.  I texted someone who knew what happened.  They said the capacity should be ~1/3rd lower than it’s currently at.  Yes, I did look at the store capacity sheet and the store capacities are pretty much outright lies for most, if not all of them that I saw.  Target lifted the restrictions on some *beverage-related* parts of the store being on an “after you shop” basis.  We still have the signs saying not to drink or eat in the store and state restricted guidelines on it posted.

    Union Activity At Target

I am curious if there has been an increase in the anti-union rhetoric at the Stores and the DC’s around the country. When I worked at T-587 every once in a while there would be a mandatory anti-union meeting when the subject ever came up. With the very real threat that Amazon may have a unionized Distribution Center by the end on the month I’m wondering if Target is sweating the same thing happening to them. In my opinion, they should be. Target has been modeling their internal structure after Amazon for two decades. Complete with management structure, employee performance metrics and treatment and an overall employees are infinitely expendable and are to be used up and replaced attitude. They fired me for standing up to it and the news about Amazon has brought back a lot of memories (both good and bad). I hope the Amazon thing plants a seed that grows and grows and grows. Workers are people and deserve to be treated as such – not drones, slaves or machines.

    Termed for walking out

So about a week ago I start my shift in STAT which is what I was hired for I also push all over the store and help fullfillment when needed at my Target and so my SD comes up to me and complains that the zone is never good (I do as much as I can in a 4 hour shift also stat is located at the front of the store a straight dump zone for guests) and goes on my discontinued are the highest and my labels are wrong. She’s up my ass about it (also why tf has nobody ever told me I should be taking care of those isn’t that what the TL and ETLs are for??) we had a corporate visit the next day so she goes on about how it has to be done and when I tell her I don’t think I can push truck, zone to her standards, and repacks for STAT in four hours she looks at me like I’m stupid.

Food & Beverage Team Leader – Quit after 3 days

After training at two separate locations it became immediately clear that Target runs a LEAN operational strategy (using the least amount of employees needed & keep those employees just below breaking point everyday).  Target management will explain this away as a “live up to the challenge” moment but in reality, it is a consistent case of always filling in and falling behind.

  • I have so many stories but the one of the stories that sticks out to me is when an old man asked if I was r******d when I was cleaning the restroom then asked me to help buckle up his overalls because he couldn’t reach it. Strangely enough I did it.

Just started 20 year old college stud

Was hired in late November as a part-time fulfillment worker at Target, and was trying to get some money for college. Took an online interview and made it in, was a very simple job description. On the first week was supposed to be trained by three different people on three different days. However was only trained the first day, and the other two days the people that were supposed to train me never showed up.

    quitting after a month

Hi, I just really need to rant out loud here. I was hired as a seasonal barista, I like my coworkers well enough but it was clear to me from Day One that management was a shit show.

There is no cafe lead, they had a cafe lead but she stopped showing up after a week. Including me, there are only 5 workers, and after this week there will be only 4 (and one of them only works on weekends) everyone does NOT want to work there, the job is easy enough but there’s just NO coverage!! I called out one day because I needed to take a covid test and when I came in the next day I found out my coworker had to work a 13 hr shit bc…NO FUCKING COVERAGE!! No one to switch shifts with, they ignored my preferred hours and scheduled me way too much, it doesn’t make any fucking sense. On my second week, they told my coworker to unload a truck for her shift; so I was alone for 4 hours. Another coworker went without any breaks for the duration of her 7 hr shift and when she told a team lead they just laughed and walked away.

    Covid19 Black Friday

So black friday is here and my target 1415 in Wheaton, Maryland fucked me over. I made the argument to store management that I don’t want to work cashier since 1) I’m not a cashier, 2) I’m not comfortable with it, and 3) I’m taking care of my 78-year-old mother with pulmonary fibrosis, meaning my mom gets the virus she has a 5% chance of recovering.  My STL says basically, fuck your mother I need cashiers. Target can suck my balls!
