the real issue with target by a possible current employee
so after stumbling upon this website and reading what you feel and go figure I see a lot of underlined themes. shitty pay, incompetent management that don’t belong in retail, shitty co workers & favoritism, piss poor policies, there is so many things wrong with the company yes but at your former store level there I feel there is one big issue…
unfortunately retail has been my life. from first job on Its just what I’ve done. This being said I maybe or may not have been a TL with that company for a few years, I stick with it because its paycheck and close to home. it’s a job. I don’t necessarily have personal “brand loyalty” to the store, if I was given a job close to home with similar pay I may take it. I come in do my job and go home. in any job if you don’t expect to be let go eventually you’re stupid. I know eventually if need be because I make to much compared to the other workers they would cut me lose on some bullshit (why pay some one 20 a hour 40 hours a week when you can pay two people 10) I think what you guys fail to see that the biggest issue is the team members. there are three categories people will fall into for my rant 1 people who are not liked (sorry its life not everyone will like you and unfortunately you may get fired due to this) 2 exceptions sometimes things just happen that shouldn’t, honest and true some people just get the short end of the stick I’m sorry but I also feel these are few and far betweenbut, there has been times where I had to keep quiet because I didn’t nearly agree what the bosses decided. and 3 who I’ll be focusing on bad workers. yeah for 8 an hour you get a high school kid who doesn’t care about his job… you try to get him to work hard. I understand I had the same mentality when I was 15 but you guys are the laziest bunch of people I have ever met. yeah both sides of the coin bad management.. poor leaders make life hard. I wont argue with you on that. I have dealt/still deal with a few that are about as smart as a monkey trying to screw a coconut. but if you have worked in retail for more than a day in your life I am sure you can agree with me on this; we all knew who were and were not performers. some of your peers are just straight up toxic.
I’m going to go out on a limb here an say that 75% of people fired deserve it (3 out of 4 of you just sucked) 20% were not liked and 5% are cases where everyone is like what the hell did they let that person go for
first hours. its non union, they have pretty much free range to do whatever they want. If you can’t understand why they were cutting your personal hours and giving someone else in the same job more then you’re dumb, that person either out works you or can play the game better, if you don’t understand the game or don’t want to play it and think you can get ahead you’re already done. second yeah everyday is an uphill battle with immense workload and left over stuff from the shift before but honestly tell me a time where you didn’t F off when you had the chance. the second you had the opportunity to slack you took it. you sucked just like the rest but then complained when you got caught or were forced to stay late to complete the work. people complain about staying late, you think any one wants to stay late? but how many times instead of doing the correct thing in whatever situation you either stretched out your time didn’t do it “up to standard” I watched you guys day in and day out stand around and talk, not working at all because you’re getting away with it. when confronted with the logic of the situation you think I am a douche bag?? lets talk about performance when I can work 6 items to your one there is an issue. if you idiots used your brain once you could have worked half as hard got twice the amount of work done. if you hired a person to paint the inside of your home and they worked at the same speed you’d be irate and completely unhappy, and on top of that everytime you came into the room the check on them they were not working? come on. but yet you’ll come into work and any chance you get you’ll f off

You totally sound like an ETL at T1846 that use to be a team lead prior to his new ETL title. "RomperStomper".
See shitty thinking like that is what makes Target a horrible work place. Unfortunately since I was a good worker the work load got shoved on me since other people were lazy. TLs and ETLS walking around holding hands since they need to travel in packs. Maybe a union should get into target and pay people living wages, instead of giving people 20 hrs a week. I thought it was funny non the less I didn't care once they showed their true colors.
Target is the most basic job...you can't get much lower then it. Cashiering, stocking shelves, and "zoning" are jobs anyone can do...young, old, even the disabled (mentally or physically) can do it.
Do you really have that high of expectations of your workers?
Target doesn't give a shit about its employees...why should the employees give a shit about Target?
Target doesn't pay a living wage. Most Target employees are eligible for food stamps and/or Medicaid because Target doesn't give out the hours so you can get their shitty healthcare.
Team members are some of the hardest workers I know and nothing is handed to them.
My store refuses to staff the store to meet the demands of the customer. During a regular shift I have to work several different work centers because we aren't staffed enough. Every other hour we have to go fold tables for soft lines because they don't schedule anyone in soft lines but the operator.
They schedule people in electronics, but most of the time they are doing domestics and toy CAFs because they only schedule one person for Hardlines....and it's a TL who claims her job is a "supervisor" and not a "laborer."
Target ETL's are the laziest people I have ever met. It requires no ingenuity skills because everything is spoon fed to them from corporate. The whole store is automated. All they have to do is print out the services scores, huddle topics, and sales figures and do nothing more then harass us about selling red cards and attachments.
Half the time they all sit in the Target Cafe or in the AP office and do jack shit.
Our store has six GSA's who do most of the GSTL shifts but don't get payed the GSTL pay grade. Then to make up for that, they have cashiers do the GSA's job and don't compensate them either!
Unions were created to represent oppressed workers from tyrannical corporations...what is more oppressive and tyrannical then the actions of Target management toward its workers!
I TOTALLY agree with both of you FATMSNSAYSHAHA & KEENtan so true and you both said it well. The ETL'S are like a wolf pack they are never alone and walk around joined at the hip with each other. And yes they hang out in FA or the AP office and "loaf" too fucken amazing. And this person the one who wrote this post probably don't have shit to say now. Come on ROMPERSTOMPER, CAN I HELP YOU SAY SOMETHING? Come on whiteboy! Defend your peers at your ghetto ass store!
I must say that when I started reading this post I thought it would be about ther persons experiences while working at Target. Instead they saw fit to label everyone thats on this site as lazy. Most people on here are former employees of Target, some are current, but I know for the most part that: stockers, cart attendants, cashiers and most sales floor workers are not lazy. Lazy people are the customers who come in and dismantle all the hard work and the claim that they must ride the motorized carts all day.
Now I get it that Target looks out for itself before anyone else. I also get it that it may have lost the definition of respect and replaced it with the definition of hypocrisy. When I go to work do I expect respect? You bet I do, it's what makes the world go around. Thinking like the on exhibited in this post subscribes to school of though that if your in retail you should expect to be treated like a servant or a personnal slave.
I get treated like that every day, and it makes me angry as hell. I have not changed jobs because I thought the atmosphere would get better. Whatever happend to the FFF attitude? Now it's all about production. I can name a few instances where Target mistreated and has even abused my position.
I agree with FATMANSAYSHAHA and KEENtan. The entire supervisory team and their attitudes towards their workers is appaling. It's bad enough dealing with "guests" and the kids throwing tantrums. It makes it almost impossible to make through the day with TL's and others in their position telling you you're not working your butt hard enough.
Chris: I'm with you too!!! You are absolutely right just like the other two people that commented on this post. FFF is a damn joke because 99% of the TL'S & ETL'S don't practice a fast fun and friendly attitude. Right on to all of us we're all on the same page with this sorry ass bullshit.
FFF has been replaced with harass the customer.
We are told to:
1. Don't take no for an answer when selling red cards. Their theory is, the debit card is to good to pass up, everyone should have one. We are suppose to nag them into submission. Yeah, 5% doesn't look so good when compared to card that actually gives you stuff back! 5% doesn't even cover sales tax!
2. In Electronics, we are basically told to lie if we have to to sell attachments. We are suppose to tell guests they "need" the attachments in order for the product to work.
I get harped on everyday because my AAR score is only 75%. I sell a shit ton of stuff, most of are attachments that aren't attached to anything, but that doesn't count. You could have the top sales in the district, but if you didn't attach a HDMI cable to that last TV, you get hounded.
And who benefits from our hard work?
THE FUCKING ETLS!!!
Did you know they get bonuses for the "team" reaching sales goals?
They also profit from the "banking" of hours. Meaning the more hours they cut, the more they are rewarding at the end of the year.
We do the shit work, they take home 50K a year.
KEENtan: yes the STL gets the golden egg at the end of the fiscal year making over 100k plus a big ass bonus from all the hours saved and red card conversion above all other scores we "team members" work hard for. Instead we get shit for raises, it's like a slap on the face or a spit in the face. So unfair! So my stores ETL's probably (most likely) sat around (as usual) and are trying to find out who's all posting stuff on this website. Sure why not they can do and sit around eating AF salsa and chips while they play cops and try to investigate this! Salaried=we can do what we want!!! Hourly=fuck us without Vaseline.
I got a seven cent raise this year...and they didn't even change it in my paycheck.
But I don't give a fuck.
I can find more then that on the ground each hour.
lol I got a 9 cent raise. Boss at my last store got me good. 90% of the time never saw her. They used to post sales and stats on the wall about how we were doing, and since I worked management several years before going to target I could read and make sense and they were like you need to inquire more about the business. Im like ya, no.
At least walmart gives 10% off and is way cheaper than the bullseye.
Soon they'll follow like pennies and bestbuy and will drop off. Feel the environment in the stores. You can sense the workers dont want to be there.
I think the biggest myth in the retail industry is that Target is some how better then Walmart.
Just because it has "hip" advertising and bright colors it seems to get ignored when it comes to worker's rights vilations, poor ethics, and political contributions to right wing fundamentalists.
Where are the protestors? Where is the media coverage? Where are the boycotts?
Cities refuse to let Walmarts in because of their bad reputations but the red carpet is rolled out for Target who practices the same damn philosophy!
Expect more, pay less...this is more then an advertising slogan, it is their view on their wage slave work force.
The media has always had a favorable view of Tarbutt do to their so called "social culture". Gee, I wonder what's up with this lawsuit in California is about? The only place it will get any reporting will be here. Tarbutt will donate to any political party that will push their agenda (they wipe there butt on both sides of the up and up toilet paper.
I believe romperstompers 20% were canned because you were not liked statement ought to say 20% refused to take the culture up the fucking tailpipe. I've seen many TL, ETL quarterly status' left on the computers (they were too ignorant to delete them) and one common theme in them were how many employees got coached during that quarter which always went in their win column. "Coaching" me thinks is more important than red cards to the Tarbutt bottom line
The ideal Target team member is susceptible to brainwashing.
Just smart enough to push the buttons and stock the shelves. The last thing they want is a population capable of critical thinking.
I love the long feed on this one, where did "ROMPERSTOMPER" go? He disappeared after posting on here. He was probably adviced by other ETL's to withdraw from here. SMDH! Lol. White boy tightened up your laces and grow some balls, start something and bail after your post gets bombed, typical punk move.
So why can't team members decide where they are more happy working at? I hear a lot of team members want to switch departments, but nothing gets approved, if they want to let you they will but in reality it's up to the ETL's to say yes or no which I think is bullshit. I've been working the sales floor and I'm ready for change. And no I'm not on correctives or coaching but they still don't let me switch because: they just don't want me to change. Instead they hire a bunch of new people which half of them don't even make it through their probation period. Sure waste payroll and hours on new hires that ate worth for shit when there are good performers that need more hours and cross training to be more global. This shitty ass store is a joke!
Where are you guys located (people who commented on this post)? I'm located at the target on lemon grove in San Diego California.
I would advise against posting your specific location.
I'm fairly confident this site is monitored by Target. Maybe not at the store level but corporate probably has a beat on us.
Target has implement a strict social media policy and it can lead to termination based on the content posted.
I had a friend who was given a final warning when he posted something about hating his job.
That being said, I'm on the west coast too, but north of you guys in San Diego.
If there was ever a time that you specify the store you work, it would come AFTER your employment has ended. But even then, it's not recommended.
They should just bring union and that would fix targets wagon. I pretty much forced my transfer through since hr at my last store didn't do much. Ill disclose my location shortly maybe month or so when I get past my 90 days at my other job and im bout ready to bounce from target.
I'm trying to bring a union to my store.
I was being harassed because of my disability and couldn't talk to anyone within Target (HR does not work for you, they are just corporate stooges) and went to a union to talk about a possible law suit/representation.
But I'm afraid my store is to far gone and most of my team members are just circling the drain.
I've talked to my coworkers about attempting to join a union, but they're all afraid of losing their jobs since Target is strongly against unions. Apparently people have been fired for even -mentioning- unions, but due to the fear there's nothing we can really do. They've got us by the balls.
Good for you FATMANSAYSHAHA that's the smartest move anyone can do, bounce out of target. Proud of you. Wishing you the best and sending good positive vibes your way even though we don't know each other.
Dirty target! Bad bad bad (puke)
So glad this website exists. Target makes me want to blow shit up. I worked at a store, and i only had around 2 good managers in a total of around 5 years. These fuckers were upset when i tried to go out onto the sales floor with music in while i wasnt even working. They said it was a morale issue.... Yeah ok dumbass. And i lost the 2 good managers i had because of a high turnover rate.
Ya I wouldn't disclose store location either to be honest. They have to be watching the site. If they do they must condone how their managers treat ppl. Did you see the law suit in CA because of discrimination ?
For those with social media if you click "like" on Targets facebook they can see your page, even with tight settings they can still see it. BTW.
o.o a 7 cent raise? man that's low. My store gives like a 40 cent raise.
lol target is silly if they think 7 cent raises are omg so awesome. Competitors that are unionized and have cheaper prices are offering higher wage increases every year.
I laughed and told them not to insult me by giving me 9 cents, lol. Told them just seeing it pisses me off. They should think about their workers more and start giving some of that bonus the bosses get and send some to those that power that bonus.
So now you are making assumption romperstomper? If you are going to come up with some kind of statements, you better bring facts with you. Yes, there are plethora of lazy workers at Target just like there are lazy ETLs.
What the fuck does 20% not being liked have to do with the job? Like you said, if you come in and do your job that should be fine. I don't have to like my job but if I come in and do a fantastic job then it should be ok. I can guarantee you that there are some day you don't like your job too.
Do you know what the leadership team do not promote some people and promote others? They want people who they can order like a robot not someone who can think for themselves. Not someone who can adjust to the business environment as needed.
I'm not going to go into details about my experiences because I have already done so on my original post. Basic rundown: Employee of the month four times in three years as a Logistics Team Trainer and the number one overall store when I was a PA.
You are probably right that I was not well liked. Why? Because I knew what I was doing and they felt threatening by me. I am well educated like they were or even more than some of the TL there at Target. I had principles and I refused to kick anyone asses. When you go to business school, they teach you something --- Ethics.
Every time I go into a Target, I feel bad for TMs because I know how the game is played. Like you said, I outplayed Target when I bounced to their competitor leaving them to scrabble to find a replacement.
It is managers like you who gives Target a bad name because you FAIL to understand the needs of your employees. You favor people over people instead of promoting the right people who have common senses. People who work their asses off. ETHICS, Integrity, Qualify leadership, Good Work habits, doing away with group think, going through all the avenues to help your TMs succeed, etc.
Free At Last: you took the words right out of my mouth. Hell yes very well said. You are so right on everything. If you know your job well and are a great worker they do feel threatened and I'm with you about treating with respect and working using great work ethics. That is something the ETL's lack. They treat us like fucking puppets like robots and they use you as much as they want to their needs. Fucken douchebags seriously.
