Target/Starbucks Barista
After two years of being a stay-at-home mom, I got a job working for Target as a Starbucks Barista. And I have to say that at first, it was pretty amazing. Everyone was super nice, the pay and hours looked great. And then, three days into training some strange things came into light. One of the girls training me had put her two weeks notice in because she doesn’t get along with the Starbucks Lead. Another, everyone was told that I was fully trained and needed absolutely no training. While I have Starbucks experience, it had been two years since I worked and I even made that perfectly clear during my interview.
Nobody wanted to train me.
So basically, I was getting re-accustomed to a completely different layout and trying to remember things from two years ago all while the girl who is quitting was telling me how to do things that were completely wrong. On my third day, I was told to ignore everything this girl said. Almost all of my shifts were with her and they were mid-shifts.
Yesterday was my last official training day, and as I made management aware, I wouldn’t be able to work Tuesdays and Thursdays because my husband attends college on those days. They continued to schedule me on those days, then yesterday I was called in and informed that if I am unable to work those hours, they will have to hire someone else and I will be out of a job.
Not only that, but the Starbucks Lead told the HR Lead that I am extremely slow and not picking things up fast enough. I apologized and said I would do better.
This morning, they are bringing me in for ONE hour. Only one. Why? Because they scheduled me for three consecutive days of opening by myself without even training me to open. Every single training day was a mid-shift and one closing shift. It is extremely irritating that whoever made my training schedule didn’t seem to know what they were doing.
On top of everything, during all of my shifts that were five hours and longer, I didn’t get a single break. Every shift I worked with the Starbucks Lead, she would leave me completely alone in the department while she chatted with friends who came in or go off and do God know’s what.

I've had Target mess with my hours as well. The way they see it, you should live your life around the company and come in whenever summoned. Although I was never scheduled for one hour. I have to say training could always be better.
Dang, that sucks. I had my 1st day on the 12th, my shift was 6 hours. Training for cashier, 3 hours training and the other half on a real register. I didn't go back until the 15th for training on the Sales Floor and that was only 3 hours. And before I left that day I checked the schedule, I even triple checked to make sure I was reading it right. Turns out I'm not scheduled for a whole 9 days. Yup, 9 DAYS! I thought to myself "Did I suck that bad or do they probably just not like me?" I'll be honest with you, I felt like putting in my 2 weeks right than and there. On my way home I was reminiscing about how I used to get a lot of hours working at Burger King and started to miss that place. As for the chatty co-workers, I see that a lot at my store. Being the new guy there, I got a real stern look when I interrupted two girls chatting because I needed help with some produce. I swear it's like the girls at my store have something stuck up their wazoo 24/7! >_<
Ya Target is known with fucking with your hours. They expected me to close then open on several occasions and I told them no. Would call out, and what they play is the game where they cut your hours to very little or no hours. Like late 2012 early 2013 when I was at my last store before I transfered they gave me some weeks 5 hrs a week and some weeks none.
I just laughed because I was still collecting unemployment. They thought they were hurting me just made themselves look assholes.
Told the management staff that I would never work at starbucks either. Can't have facial hair as a male, no jewelery, no visible tattoos or piercings. Told them for 8 bucks an hour they can have some other guy dress in a monkey suit and make them drinks.
lol if you can find another job some where else go there.
Already done it.
My advice is to contact not Target HR but Starbucks HR, Explain your situation and see what they do. They may be able to transfer you to another starbucks
