Credit card fraud
So even with the fear of using credit cards, debit cards and redcards, people are still shopping in our target, though I can’t for the life of me get a red card out of anyone for at least a week, with the exception of a few stragglers who are willing to sign up for debit cards..
As a cashier, I have had to listen to the constant stupidity of guests, asking me if its safe to use their cards.. THEN when I say yes, those same people go into a song and dance about how their bank is reissuing them a new card and blah blah blah, who gives a shit.. Why did you ask me anything if you were going to go off on a rampage about it, or was that the way you were trying to work your frustration into the conversation?
I get so annoyed that when they ask if its safe I say – this is probably the safest place to use your card since the secret service is watching every move target takes… And what the hell does that even mean..but they are satisfied with the answer.
It makes me sick the way that the media got hold of the information, ran wild with things that didn’t even make sense even though I’m sure the problem was resolved the first day someone reported a fraudulent charge on their card..
If the public thinks that target is the only company that was hit, they are nuts..in my opinion, someone (a hacker) got hold of the information from global services, or whatever company that target uses to accept credit cards..
I’m sure we will hear about the other stores who were hit in a short while.. Right now, target is being used as the target, the fall guy for the compromise.
I just can’t stand the stupidity of guests.. If you have any qualms about using your card why the hell would you ask a cashier who makes minimum pay if its good to use? Go to the bank, take out cash and use that..then you won’t have any problems at all….
Ok, rant over.
One guest said it the best – she thinks that Walmart had the media trash target so they would get more business.
Could be, don’t you think?

Sounds like you don't pay much attention. The systems within target were compromised. It's not anybody but Target's fault.
I agree with you about the guests asking if it's safe to use their cards. What the fuck do we know? We're just cashiers. It's not like our LOD's walk up to us and say "Hey guys credit cards are NOT safe to use here."
What I don't agree with you saying is that Target't not at fault for the security breach. Target knew about the breach a long time before the story was broke by a blogger and they didn't tell the public. Why? Because something like this would significantly damage Christmas sales. Target put 40 million+ people at risk of credit card theft because they were scared they would lose profit. That's where Target fucked up. The breach itself could have, in all honesty, happened to anyone. But the fact that Target didn't release this information to the public, and is continuing to lie and ignore customers questions just shows what a shitty, greedy, fuck-you-all-I-want-is-money company Target is. After this fuck-up I'd put Target right up there with Viacom for their greed.
I hate to say it but some of the fault lies with consumers using swipe cards instead of demanding their banks to move with the times and issue them pin and chip. And have the credit card do an encrypted pin request instead of plain text html like some cards are currently using. It's why target's such an easy target. Pardon the pun.
I don't know if you've noticed, but here in the states we're not the best at demanding progress. The banks and corporations run this country thanks to lobbying, insider trading, offshore transfer pricing, etc.
And plain-text is cheaper than encryption, although Target did use encryption-keys on their end from what it sounds like. But if there's a key, there's a lock and where there's a lock, there's a way to pick it.
Canadian here. Sounds more like americans being stubborn and afraid of change. Mastercard and Visa both us companies yet have pushed emv across the world. China a 2nd world country, rapidly catching up to the rest of the world has moved onto emv as well.
How is it NOT Targets fault? They cut corners EVERYWHERE from there stores to healthcare to product quality(I had a LOD tel me once to stop checking for cracked eggs and to just let the customers bring them up or take them home) so them having half ass security is no surprise. Walmart or Best Buy didn't have those problems because they give a shit more than TARSHIT at least.
And Silverfox that system you like so much will eventually be hacked as well time will catch up I know how about you put a chip in your hand or on your forehead to use? it's like there was some book warning about hat lol
You were misinformed; Target was to blame for the security compromise. But, I'm sure that your Target "leadership" team misinformed you all on purpose to look innocent. That being said, original poster, you seem way too intelligent to be working at Target. Get a different job; somewhere where you'll be appreciated.
