Coworker requisitioned gift card for themselves

A few weeks ago, I was visiting work, so that I could shop, a coworker that was really close to me had a gift card and let me borrow it. It wasn’t strange to me because they always let me borrow money and I would pay it back. So it turns out that this was the gift card they had stolen, and I had used my discount on it, so now I’m involved in all of this. I know that they will pull me into the office to question me. But I honestly had no idea what was going on. I feel like they won’t believe me when I say I don’t know. I don’t want to lose my job over a giftcard.

Seems like very poor judgment on your part. First off all the only people who need to borrow money from anyone (that's not a bank) are typically people who struggle with managing their income an living with in their means. At the very least you should have questioned this person why they had this gift card instead of the typical cash you borrow. Ignorance is never accepted as an excuse for committing a crime, however, you might find some leniency. If you answer honestly and your "friend" admits guilt and corroborates your story you will probably get a pass. However, I have feeling this "close friend" will not be honest and leave you in trouble.

I wouldn't have taken the gift card. Awhile back couple people got fired for that. They had to pay the money back. It's easy to ring the gift card up for free and get away with it. Then eventually they'll catch you. One time a guest gave me a gift card I rang up. Then I used it. The security guard took me to the back and questioned me about it. They checked it out and found out it was legit. I'm an honest person.
