System crashes…
F**k x 10000000. Today was one of the worst storewide system crashes we had…and I had to be there for all of it. Cashier shift 2pm-9pm, Sunday. Starting at 3pm, all the registers everywhere went down. They froze, crashed, and did not successfully reboot for an hour. Even when some registers were working, we would scan only one item and it would take one full minute to process it. It would take 5 just to start processing the first item and the payments. This lasted for three hours and they still allowed people to come in and shop without telling them. So we had to keep yelling to everyone to inform them. Later, when some of the registers finally were working again, the debit cards would not work because the pin numbers would not take the rest of the evening. So of course people were pissed they couldn’t get their 5%.
On top of all this crap, I was not allowed to go on either of my 15 min breaks, only my lunch. So a full shift with only a lunch on top of dealing with this problem.
This happened once last year…then the hacking quickly followed. I wonder if any other stores experienced this today and if this happens often?

From what I heard this was a company wide outage, but I know for certain it happened at all of the stores in my district. Registers, PDTs, LPDAs... everything was down for about three hours, just like at your store.
It would be the icing on the cake if Target got hacked again, especially after they spent millions on "upgrading" the security systems and hiring two new execs.
but then Target was told about the hacking countless times over and over again but they ignored it lol. What's the point in spending all that money if they are going to play mr.ignore?
I have had system freezes and small freezes where people must swipe there card again due to when the screen freezes and if someone is operating card reader at same time even writing, it has to reset and scan again. I've has my store stuck twice by lightning in two different years. We even have gotten new computers in back in April, do they work any better? Hell no. They still freeze, crash, have to go to new register, freeze and say complete on card screen but my screen is froze and than goes stuck on card sign screen, I have to cancel and than they restart. People, it's easy, just never run your card right away, wait until I am done and the system won't freeze on us!
no wonder we get weird people up here using ameri swipey cards and try to swipe before the transaction is done and I hit the total button and credit button.
And the machine goes erk erk erk erk. Like Stop that you beeep !
I don't know if it was the same for anyone else, but the systems were down again for six hours this morning. Maybe someone is screwing with Target again?
Also, it looks like the down-vote fairies have discovered this site. It'd be nice if there was an option that required an explanation as to why people are down-voting posts.
What do you mean about down-voting? The dislikes? Or the posts dropping lower on the list?
The dislikes, yeah. Guess I've been on Imgur too much recently haha.
It's hard to imagine there are people okay with how Target operates, but the dislikes seem to hint otherwise.
Who knows why people hit it. Maybe somebody didn't like the spelling or something. 🙂
Ha! I disliked my own reply.
Oops, I did it again.
I discovered if you change ip you can downvote more than once
On rare occasions our systems go down, but not as bad as you described it. Also our store was hacked on Black Friday. I still get the question, "Is it safe to use my credit card now?". No it's not f*ckin safe 7 months later...
The one time I bought something at target starbucks I used pin and chip. Target cashier at starbucks swiped the card of the customer ahead of me. I used pin and chip as I did not trust Target's security in light of the breech. Only reason canadian cc numbers are safe because canadians use either pin and chip or paypass.
Yeah there's deff something weird in Targets system. At our store registers almost half of them do not work. It's like they take turns not working. I also noticed that when I'm scanning stuff it takes a little bit for the item to show on the screen or the screen will just freeze. Wonder if the scam people put some type of trojan virus in the system?
F the not being able to take your breaks bs. I would have walked off and took it! Target is always having system issues, really wish they'd get their shit together!
system issues is the reason why they got hacked
That depends on how you define system issues; they got hacked because their data wasn't secure. They knew it wasn't secure, and didn't fix it until after it was a problem.
Too lazy to do anything about it
90% of my frustration has always been the customers. If I were there shopping, I'd take whatever junk I actually *needed* and pay full price and save the other stuff--that I wanted 5% off of--for another day; put it on hold or go put it back myself. (I was always like that, even before I worked retail; my momma taught me to not make extra work for the employees). But of course the vast majority are not reasonable and cannot see that stuff like this is unusual and not the fault of the cashier. I mean, we have to have our cheap goods from China, right?
