Self checkouts are coming in
That’s right folks, new self check outs are coming in to Target stores. Right now at my store we are just waiting for the technician guys to come in and put in the self checkouts, there’s gonna be four of them that replace where we use to have 4 express lanes. Oh what a great deal right? Now when we have people come in I can just see it now, oh there’s no where to get on right now, where do I go GSTL? Uh uh uh just do baskets put away and hangers and abandons for now. I can smell a few fired people right now because of this. Although my store still has now hiring signs up. Why still hiring? We have more than enough cashiers now, we have 6 POS computers that don’t work right now because of check fail, card fail, keyboard fail, or won’t turn on. Even when we had all the lanes it was like where do I go there all taken and the others open have something not working on it. Seriously target, you’re gonna be walmart now? Is this new self checkouts happening in the store you work at people who read this or is it not?

My target just added self checkout lanes not too long long ago (about a month ago). People barley use them, they seem to confuse customers (yes, you heard that right) not sure if it'll affect cashiers, but if it does, I have nothing to worry about.
I've used Walmart self checkouts before but of course it's easy for me as I'm already a cashier. Yeah people at walmart often use the light for manager help at self checkouts to cause at walmart it's like the computer is always saying you didn't put the item over the check out it's like yes I did. So I guess it won't go good, probably get used most by cashiers on there breaks than cause we already know how to use ours so self check out wouldn't be hard for us.
My store has self checkouts, they put them in at least a year ago and yes... Expect the guests to have problems using them. Wow the things people say/do while attempting to use the machines is shocking. Good luck! On a positive note you WILL have some
Amazingly funny stories to share.
nothing new. Target installed them when they moved up here. Guess they had to find some place to stash all those extra self checkout machines they were no longer using and couldn't sell to make a quick buck when they left.
The self checkouts used in Canada were always broken down. I think there might have been just one or two days that all four were working properly. Most days there were at least two broken down and IT couldn't repair them. Embarrassing. But its obvious that this will come with payroll adjustment expectations to reduce the labour expense.... Self checkout installations are a direct red flag for all Team Members to start thinking seriously about seeking union representation.
lol would they be broken self checkout machines target is installing now?
