Target Sucks - We Hate Target and We Know We're Not Alone.

From Hardlines to Cashier and… Should I Quit?

I had friends that went straight into a ETL position or some leadership role from College with little to no experience, but I wanted to put in some work at the bottom to earn my keep learn about Target. I suggest noone ever come into Target starting at the Bottom better to come in on top. I have my Bachelors and I have experience in other roles, but I needed a job fast and wanted to get in their system because THEY told me they love to promote from within oh god that was a lie.

I started in October as Hardlines for 3 months, which i originally told them I was interested in Electronics, but no big deal. I had fun with the job in Hardlines, it was fun fast paced kept moving throughout the day doing different tasks. I liked having something to accomplish whether it be pulling, Zoning, doing go backs or whatever they may have needed. I made the sad, stupid mistake saying I was interested in a GSTL position.. So, they put me on the cash registers to do that lifeless job.

At first it was fine, i didn’t mind it. I was getting the occasional red card and so on even after the whole scandal, but the worst part is when my GSTL comes up behind me and tells me what are you doing… You need to ask each customer why they do not want a red card… I was confused.. but I tried it OH WOW did that fail. Each person was like… I DON’T WANT ONE… is that a good enough reason or… NONE OF YOUR BUSINESS. The best one was… UMM…. ARE THEY MAKING YOU SAY THIS. People felt pity for me.

Anyways, I am to this day only getting 10-20 hours a week, which HR said that’s what an average team member gets.. So, get over it. I tried to change my schedule to fit, my 2nd job needs, but they don’t like for anyone to have a set schedule.. Unless I had lied said I was taking a class for School, which they must legally allow to have that scheduled time off.  Anyways after I was told all that information, as well as the fact that it can take anywhere from 6-18 months to promote.. I doubt I will be spending anymore time with this company.. I guess it seems quite obvious as to what I should do.. But, I’d like some feed back.

Also, is Target treating others like this as well.

PS. When I sell red cards the people who get them are the ones that want them.. All you can do is inform them of what the Target Red Card is.. and let them make the decision on  their own. For any people that are still team members

Thank you for hearing my RANT ABOUT Target. If you have any advice I would love it.

I just put in my two weeks. I got some interesting experience and had fun to begin with, but they expect too mucj from team members for such a low wage when costco and other jobs pay much better.
Some respect goes a long way. If anything i suggest people if you want money, work Seasonal, you will make more during that time then you do 6 months working non seasonal at Target. Get in, and get out with some experience.

I also want to thank everyone here for the horror stories and the nice attitudes everyone has had. It made the decision 10x easier.

If you have to be in this type of retail go to Walmart, they still suck but they do treat you better than TarShit. I started at Target because I was unemployed and had a kid so needed a job fast. First I got 30-32 hours a week but son was whittled down to 16! One month my entire income was 400 dollars TOTAL. I quit and got a job with 40hrs 3 bucks more an hour and never looked back. I found out after the fact that I would have got a whopping SEVEN CENT RAISE if I would have stayed. If you are in high school or a funded student it's fine but if you are trying to live in the real world, avoid it like the plauge!
