Target makes employee with Coronavirus come to work, fires employees for being improperly trained
I was hired about a month ago at T2201 for fulfillment, I wasn’t trained by a trainer/lead in the position, I was trained by another entry level employee. There was no “proper” training. Basically on my first day, I was shown how to pick, do ships, and that was that. I was shown at a later time by another entry level employee how to do packing.
So fast forward to several days ago, the closing LOD, called me into her office and told me she had to retape some packages I did and if she had to have a discussion like this with me again, I could get terminated. What the hell?! Terminated because I’m improperly trained? Why don’t you address the situation instead of weeding someone else out because of your poor management? When this was brought to her attention, she swept it under the rug, like she does everything else. Everyone makes mistakes when they’re new, and on top of that, I’ve never made any kind of BIG mistake that could cause the company any kind of damage or loss.
There was an employee at T2201 who tested positive for Coronavirus (COVID-19) and was forced to come to work until they had a doctor’s note proving so. We weren’t made aware of this until the employee was on medical leave. The store knowingly exposed everyone to COVID-19 and didn’t take any measures to protect employees or provide protective gear (masks and gloves) until a while after this happened.
So yesterday, I was called into a lead’s office, which is where he wrongfully terminated me. He said people had to have multiple talks with me, which is untrue, only one person had a talk with me, which was the closing LOD. He proceeded to tell me that I had a great personality, I was a great person, would go on to do big things in my life but not with target.
I was shocked and truly couldn’t believe it. Once I defended myself and told him how I was improperly trained and still new, he did just what the closing LOD did and ignored everything I said.
Target has no empathy for others, making severely ill employees come into work or be threatened with termination, exposing other employees to deadly viruses, and terminating employees for being improperly trained without addressing those who are improperly trained themselves. I’m sure I’m not the first person, nor the last person this has happened to. Don’t work for Target! There are so many better companies to work for that treat employees like humans rather than just another number.
