How do I pay off a shortage?
I got fired for causing a shortage to the drawer. On Black Friday I added all the coupons up that the lady had and just put it in all together since everyone was in a rush and I felt panicky. So now I owe target $5.12 and some lady wanted the coupons that were on cartwheel so I rang it up for her on my phone and accidentally forgot to remove my team member discount so they thought I was trying to give her my discount. Shouldn’t that have been a warning? How exactly do I pay that? They said I would be getting a letter in the mail but it’s been like 3 weeks now. And is anyone else having this happen, when I use my team member discount online it still works?

The shortage sounds like it was clearly an honest, and correctable mistake. They fired you because they don't like you, and used that as an excuse.
Now I'm not sure how cash handling law goes, but as far as charging employees for work places errors go THEY CAN'T! It's called a cost of doing business. They can fire you, but they cannot force you to cover the loss. Google it. Now if they are accusing you of stealing that's another story. But errors nope can't do nothing. Oh you broke that you owe us, it doesn't work that way. Like I said google it. Most employees are unaware of this law so they get taken advantage of. It's the cost of doing business! Target took on that risk, not you! Just google it you will find everything you need to know. I wouldnt sure pay them anything and inform them it's the cost of doing business and unless they're accusing you of stealing it you have nothing more to discuss with them.
How can your drawer come up short when a whole bunch of hands has been in your drawer? I worked as a cashier at Target for almost 15 years and they never said that to me. I hate when people use the drawer that I use because I like to keep my drawer neat. I like my dollar bills facing the same way and all my change in their compartments, not in the rolls that they are usually in. It sounds like they just want to get rid of you and they use that as an excuse. They use all kind of excuses to take me back into the office to talk to me. They were afraid to fire me because I already promised that I'll introduce them to a very good friend of mine named Mark Ward, he's a lawyer.
