Lost it today
I was scheduled 6-2:30 in shipping. As usual, we had no orders. They keep saying we’re getting 800+ orders, etc but it never happens. I have been in this department since Oct 31, 2016.
So 8:00 rolls around, and we are DONE. Nothing to pick, nothing to pack, and 4 people scheduled for the majority of the day. I know what is coming…they will come “steal us” and put us in Flow, or on the floor. I HATE that, it’s why I took what was suppose to be permanent position in Shipping. If they don’t have work, I’d just assume go home…but they frown on that?? My other store cut payroll every chance they could.
Oh, before I forget….my current store opens at 4am, so from 4-8 they pipe in this HORRIBLE Satellite XM radio on this AWFUL pop station that plays the same 5 songs over and over……EVERY DAY. Many wear headphones because it’s so bad. So imagine dreading going to work, and then having your ears assaulted by Justin Timberlake for 2 hours……
Back to 8:00….6.5 hours to go on my shift. Nothing really to back stock, so I KNOW I am going to be pulled to work FDC and dry grocery. After being told after my transfer (I demoted from Team Lead) I had knowledge of all the back end stuff (pulls, receiving, defectives, price change, instocks, etc) they would love having me there. They seemed to have forgotten that because I am asked to do the FDC again.
At this point, I have been wavering since the holidays about leaving, as I don’t want to come to work and always have it be a surprise where I am going to be working. I have enough from PTSD and depression, I don’t need more unknowns. Plus I said only 3 shifts a week please, and they keep giving me 4-5, it’s not helping!!!
I head up to the TSE, look on eHR and Workbench for the Termination form, and cannot find it. I can’t bear to be there anymore, so I punched out at 8:20 and went home. I didn’t feel guilty at all, I just. Could. Not. Do. It. Anymore. My next scheduled day is Sunday. Yeah, I am puss for not wanting to talk to them, I want to just drop off a note to HR and say hey I am resigning for personal reasons effective today.
I thought about trying to go through 2 weeks notice, but honesty, I can’t take it that long! Plus I know of 2-3 people who DID put in 2 weeks notice and leave on good terms, only to be denied when they applied again later on. I don’t want to not say anything and get job abandonment, but I can’t do it anymore. I’ll sleep on it tonight, but honestly don’t think I will return. Target loves you until you do one thing wrong, and then that is all they see, never mind you working your butt off over the holidays and helping out others, that all goes away when you ask to go home when you have a fever.

I never returned to work. I gave them the same consideration they were giving me, which was none. Not once did they call me to ask where I was. Now let's talk about job abandonment for a second. "A: Job abandonment occurs when an employee has no intention of returning to the job and hasn't notified the employer of his or her intention to quit. Generally, this is considered a voluntary termination." "Employers should develop a policy defining how many days of absence will be considered job abandonment. There are no federal or state laws that specify the number of days. However, in some states, case law establishes three days as reasonable. Three days is the most common measure and will provide employers with enough time to investigate the absence." Did Target investigate? "In addition to policy development, employers must develop investigation procedures and follow the termination process. The process for investigating must minimally include contacting or an attempt to contact the employee before issuing the termination." Leaving Target with out notice won't stop you from getting another job. They have strict no talk policy about previous employees. Not sure why you're worried about job abandonment in the first place it holds no real weight. You're not on some list somewhere like some companies want you to believe and trust me I worked for a boss once who wanted me to believe that. No one needs to know you left Target with out notice, the shouldn't find out other wise unless you tell them.
You're better than them, trust me they don't deserve to have you. If HR can't schedule right it shouldn't be you who gets punished by moving to a different spot to do extra work

I know I already posted, but I want to be clear the odds that leaving Target without notices prevents you from getting a job again is VERY VERY LOW. First they need to find out so don't tell them!!!!! Make them find that out it's very unlikely they will. Second they may not even care because working for Target doesn't exactly hold a lot of weight in the work force. If they like you they will hire you. After I left Target without notice I went on 1 job interview and I was hired on the spot. Just give a very solid reason for leaving. Don't say you were stressed out or couldn't take it any more. And most certainly do not bash Target.
Thank you guys! I did type up a note saying that for personal reasons I had to immediately turn all my focus and energy to my family, and I was sorry about no 2 week notice. No call, nothing, my partner ordered some stuff form target online and couldn't remove my team member # and still got the discount 3 days later, so it took them a while to term me in the system. For future jobs, only if I do retail again, I'll put down my first store, and screw the 2nd store...I was at the first store a year. I am glad they can only say the dates you work, I have nobody I'd use as a personal reference anyway.
I work in ship from store also, I have been for almost a year. When we have nothing to pick and pack they would make us push the rest of the day. that is not our job, our job is ship from store. They treat me like shit there, especially today I had enough of it. its getting to a point where I want to quitl. One of my LOD members was yelling at me almost to go faster in 30 minute time span where thats impossible because you can get interrupted by guests and trying to find the item and they want you to not INF the item. She also asked me to do OPU orders and I was searching for items she said to me "oh my god you're gonna make me miss my orders" in a rude tone. Ship from store is already stressful as it is. I had enough with this one LOD she treated me horrible today since I clocked in and clocked out she didn't treat the others like she treated me. I understand where you are coming from.
