If you live in Australia, you’re safe. Despite the identical logo, Target US and Target AU are two completely separate companies.
With that out of the way, allow me… ahem. Once upon a time, we were shopping at Target as usual. Everything was fine until we checked at the self-checkout. I was really young, so I didn’t know any better, but I was scanning things and putting them back in the cart. We then quickly lost track of what we scanned and just left. We thought we scanned everything until… BEEP! BEEP! BEEP! Target’s alarms went off, and they only let us take half of the stuff we had in our cart. And no, we didn’t scan half of the items in our cart, we scanned almost everything. We were then forced off their property for 2 years or so.

Yeah no matter where you go this place sucks.
You were trying to steal. Being young is no excuse. Lost track of what has been scanned? Call an attendant and start all over. Place scanned products on the carousel. Not that difficult. People who don't do that are watched carefully.
