Target Sucks - We Hate Target and We Know We're Not Alone.

I don’t know what to do…

I have worked at target for over a year now. I loved it at first, good starting pay for someone who has never had a real job before. I am a cashier at a super target and I can’t get out of being one, I have asked my ETL to move into soft lines and been lied straight to my face, that there was no position open. Then we hire 2 new cashiers and they are moved over there. I don’t like liars to begin with. I have talked to HR and they have done nothing. I am still a current worker there and I have no idea what to target higher ups just play favorites and its impossible to move up.

The exact same thing happened to me. I've asked my ETL to move to Food Avenue, Softlines, and even Guest Services. I've been at Target almost a year and I am still stuck as a cashier. Honestly, there is nothing you can do. Moving to another department or cross training at Target is such a pain in the ass that it's easier to quit and find a new job if you don't like your current position.

the retail curse, best advice i can give, suck it up, finish school, leave for better things, just cause your a cashier now doesn't mean you'll be one in 5 years, rise above and leave when you can.

  • Redcardsuck says:

If you're hired as a cashier it's near impossible to move elsewhere. You won't be moved unless they see you get a ton of red cards. And even then they may not because they need to continue to get them. Once you hit that cashier checkbox you're screwed. You should just quit. Most do. They want their cashier's to act like used car salesman. Without the commission.

  • Target says:

My coworker lied about me covering his shift such bullshit I never agreed to cover and then i get a call from operator next week asking why I did't show up on a day i wasn't scheduled.

  • pinkzinnia says:

You either have to stop getting redcards and or suck at your job. Then you will probably get moved.

  • Silverfox says:

lol I thought being moved to softlines was a demotion

    • dhario says:

Actually Cashier is the demotion. With Sales Floor you can make minimum wage, where as Cashier you make way less. That’s probably why they won’t move them to Floor. I know a ton of Cashiers who make way less than anyone hired for the Floor; and that includes raises every year.

  • Silverfox says:

I got moved to the fitting rooms not long after I made cashier at zellers. Then I decided that folding clothes and dealing with put aways wasn't my cup of tea. The mess is never ending lol. I prefer being a cashier to folding clothes.

    • Silverfox says:

stuff wasn't sorted, all thrown into one giant cart and handed you to put back. EWWW, at my current store, we sort things out by department and aisle. Much easier

  • Pissedoffcashier says:

I was supposed to be carts and was even trained my first day for carts. Suddenly i was moved to cashier at my store and trained poorly for it.
