Got Coached For “Not Pushing the RedCard”
Target’s management has done a lot of unfair, shady shit to me, but this one takes the cake.
There was this GSA at my store who was always such a hawk about the redcards. Asked us every 5 minutes if we had gotten a RedCard, always singled people out who hadn’t gotten one yet, stuff like that. Well, recently, our GSTL quit and she got the promotiom.
When I cashier, I ask every guest “do you want to save 5% with a REDcard?” If they say no, I continue on with the transaction and let it go. Only if they seem halfway interested will I really push it. Well, the Redcar hawk didn’t really like that.
She pulled me aside, and told me I needed to be “rebuttaling” more. That’s their euphemism for “harassing.” She told me I needed to push every single guest on the RedCard.
So I go back on my lane, I “rebuttal” with a few guests here and there, and I carry on.
Fast forward 5 hours. She pulls me aside again. She asks me why I’m not rebuttaling. I didn’t know what to say without sounding confrontational, so I remained silent. She goes on to tell me that this is insubordination and that she is giving me a documented coaching for it. She then told me I would be put on corrective action if she heard me not rebuttaling again.
The whole time I was trying to hold back laughter because I couldn’t believe I was being coached for such a ridiculous reason. I ask every guest, because that is my job. But it is asinine and unrealistic to give a long-winded pitch to every single guest, especially considering such a small percentage of them actually do sign up.
Fuck you, Target. They’re not “leaders,” they’re managers.
