Feel discriminated against
I only work 20 hours a week at Target because I’m on disability. I’m a cashier who also runs guest service from time to time. I am completely bored with my job position and have wanted to cross-train other areas of the store. In fact, on my last annual review I actually got a negative checkmark because I wasn’t cross trained despite my efforts of trying to be. (another angry story for another time)
Anyway I’m one of the top Red Card converters and I’m very fast and efficient. I know that is exactly why they don’t want to let me go from the lanes. However the other day I stayed 3 hours later than my scheduled shift to train at Food Ave. in hopes that I would get to go over there sometime and get away from the lanes for a change. The team lead said I was amazing over there and wrote a letter to HR about how she wanted me. HR wrote back and said no because I only work 20 hours a week.
I’ve also asked to be put on the floor. I’m also trained in softlines and hardlines. They have scheduled me about 4 times to be on the floor, but once I get there and ask the LOD where they want me on the floor, they tell me disappointingly “well we just really need you on the lanes today”. I feel like I’m being discriminated against because I only can work 20 hours a week. Everyone else in the store gets to work in other areas of the store except for me. I’m so bored with my unchallenging job that I am looking for employment elsewhere. The staying 3 hours late to train at Food Ave and then being rejected from working there was the last straw.

I know how you feel. I have been at Target almost 2 years and have had just 16 hours in other areas of the store. Yes they discriminate. I have asked for shifts in other areas and they don't put me in but they put people in that have not trained and don't have an aptitude for it. I am so bored.
They won't move you to another area of you're good at getting REDCards. I worked as an HR TM and when really good TMs wanted to cross train in other areas they would tell me. I would then inform the ETL HR and their department ETL. They don't cross-train good REDCard TMs because then conversion will go down and that's all they care about. It isn't fair. But then again, when is Target ever fair?
That's odd because at my Target they just keep telling me "well you're not getting a lot of red cards, we can't cross train you until you are good at the job you are at, it's called building your way up." Hmm. Well how come that black guy who was doing carts last week suddenly got back room? He was there for 2 months doing carts and than gets granted back room full time. I'm not sure what it is, but the Target team lead members I've read about on here from every store are all the same, ignore real truthful people, disobey the good ones yet get away with it, do things for others but not for you, blame you but not others when something wasn't your fault. What is it? It's like Target is making leaders delusional!
