Barely worked at Target for a month, already want to quit
I’m 16, been working at Target for less than a month, and I already want to quit! The “guests” are rude and expect too much for a seasonal employee, plus I just started. The people who work there for the most part seem nice enough, but there is nobody at my store my age and they are all expecting too much of me. I’m on the Sales Floor, and I was never told which part of the Sales Floor I was hired for, like Hardlines or Softlines and nobody else knows. I get decent pay, at $11.50/h CAD but to me, who doesn’t need a job to support myself (yet), it’s not worth my mental well-being. It’s terrible job, and I would never recommend it to anybody. I have been calling in sick for the past 3 days because they are putting too much stress on me. anybody have ANY suggestions on how to quit QUICKLY? It’s very important to me. I’m at the Red Deer Alberta location.

You can either do two choices: 1) put your two week notice in. or 2) screw something up really bad that will automatically give you termination. I would rather do two week notice, because you can fuck with them for those two weeks. and Give them a "nice" present on your final day.
For how much I know prices of items are raised in Canada, that's a pretty good starting wage, but than again, with the price of the Canadian items, it's like my state of $7.50 minimum wage cause our items cost less. If I was making that much per hour, I'd be happy and spinning woohoo! But yeah, again with prices there. To me, I started working at 15, it was damn good too, cause more work experience means more opportunities of jobs, because most jobs want you to have experience to get them and only require a high school diploma. So, 26 now, I have nearly 11 years of work experience. I know, I hate the job too, but overall, having money makes me feel better about myself after a full day of that hell job.
🙂 fyw target has to pay that much because otherwise no one would apply there. The min wage for alberta is $9.90 but because of the oil rigs that pay like $20+ per hour, no one will work for target if they give them the min wage. No one in their right mind will. If target could get away with it, they'd pay you even less but then there be no one who would work for them
P.S from what i hear from a teacher up there, the requirement to work there is less than what target requires for their highest paid members their gstls. 😉 No degrees necessary. Just gr 10 education. Not many are staying in to finish high school let alone get a post secondary degree
actually i say once you get some experience and graduate from school head up the oil rigs and screw target.
If you were out for 3 days without a doctors note in my store I think you would be fired or at the least be given a written warning..
If you are seasonal, then you may be a floater - meaning going from department to department.. I would think that would be a good thing.. The more you learn, the more you know.
As far as it stressing you out, what could they possibly be doing to you? Don't you have to stock the shelves and make the department look neat? What else are you required to do?
Better yet if your local rcss is hiring try applying there. Check on their website. Actually just took a peek and they're hiring. Since it's alberta, i think they're paying more than target. Don't know but can't hurt to apply. Glassdoor is reporting a higher avg salary for part time workers in alberta stores
If you are truly miserable and don't need the money, just write a letter of resignation, go in and hand it to a manager. You don't HAVE to give two weeks notice, that's normally the proper way to do things if you would like to use them as a reference later on.
I've had a job where I gave a two week notice at, but they somehow didn't put it in there computers that I would be gone that last week. So I didn't show up. 2 years later I applied there again and they won't hire me back because of the reason of leaving early. They said to me, that was a bad decision to make, and we can't trust you again, we will not hire you again. The other thing is if you just quit without a proper 2 week notice signing paper, they will make bad remarks about you when you refer to them on your resume as working history. So forever for working history you would never get a job ever likely again because Target would be putting in bad word for you for leaving them early and not with a proper 2 week signature document paper they have employees sign when leaving properly.
