    Soon I will be free

Put in my two weeks and last day on Oct. 11th! I am so excited! I have been a cashier for over a year. What finally pushed me over was the TLs’ and LODs’ lack of forethought when handling situations.

Yes, I didn’t take a lunch when I had a 5 hour and 15 min shift. Partially my fault for not being assertive enough to take it anyway. However, the blame should also be on Tarshit for not properly training the guest service chick newly turned GSTL. My hours for that day were listed as 4.75, so the GSTL assumed that it wasn’t considered a 5 hour shift and only scheduled a break, no lunch. I asked if she was sure, and she insisted. What was I supposed to do? I’m timid and going through a lot of shit (being an abuse survivor doesn’t help things either). So of course the next day the LOD and minion TL cornered me in my register to make me sign a paper and treating me like I was stupid.

    Disabled TMs?

I was curious, does anyone know if disabled TMs get longer break and lunch periods than non-disabled TMs? If not… I think one of the laziest TMs I’m stuck with is totally taking advantage…

    Exhausting

Just curious… Are all cashier jobs exhausting? Or just Tarshit’s? It doesn’t matter if it’s a long or short shift. A four hour shift feels like I just worked an eight hour shift. I come home, feet sore, throat scratchy, and utterly tired.

Granted, I only work weekends due to school etc, but I work hard on those three to four shifts in a row. I like to earn my money. I am also often targeted by a GSA who constantly makes me zone the one spot (most confusing and frustrating place I have ever encountered), the trading card wall, and go fetch items to restock the front shelves. She also loves to constantly remind me of my low red card conversion scores and threatens coaching. I find myself especially tired after having to spend a full eight hours with her.

    System crashes…

F**k x 10000000. Today was one of the worst storewide system crashes we had…and I had to be there for all of it. Cashier shift 2pm-9pm, Sunday. Starting at 3pm, all the registers everywhere went down. They froze, crashed, and did not successfully reboot for an hour. Even when some registers were working, we would scan only one item and it would take one full minute to process it. It would take 5 just to start processing the first item and the payments. This lasted for three hours and they still allowed people to come in and shop without telling them. So we had to keep yelling to everyone to inform them.

    Went from ok to worse

So I’ve been working here as a cashier for almost a year in southern California. The pay is alright considering I’m just part time, however working conditions just began to get bad recently.

Before, our break schedule followed the 2-4-6 rule, which was easy to work with and the TLS generally followed it. Now it’s a computerized schedule rather than the TLS manually writing in the break schedules for the day. For an 8 hour shift, you get your first break just one hour after you start, lunch usually on just your third hour, and the last break on your fifth hour. On top of them not running the ac in the front, it gets hot and tiring really fast. A few including myself have gotten woozy due to working almost 4 full hours without a break. One actually passed out. Everyone hates it.
