Aren’t 15 minute breaks optional?
If they are, then why was my TL giving me shit for not taking one of them on Thursday? This woman (if you want to call her that) is fucking nuts. She put in her two week notice that day (thank god), and I’m the one who’s in line to take her spot. She started lecturing me when I helped my teammates when it looked like they were behind on the CAF. What am I supposed to do? If I let them fail, we still get shit for missing batches. I’d rather not miss CAFs. As it turns out, they didn’t need my help, but I figure better safe than sorry, right? Nope. Apparently, I don’t display leadership qualities. If leadership means sitting back and while your team’s chances of failing increases, then maybe I’m not the guy for the job.
And back to the 15-minute break thing, when I told her I skipped my break, she got hot and told me that there isn’t any special treatment, and that I have to lead by example and take all my breaks. Since when was not having a break considered “special treatment?” And I hate taking breaks anyway. I never want to go back to work. My body starts to get stiff, and if I eat, I feel like I want to take a nap. I’d rather just do 5-6 hours and peace out. As long as I’m young (I’m 22) and healthy, I don’t need breaks.
I don’t want the TL job anymore. From what I understand, the increase in responsibility doesn’t equal the increase in pay. On top of that, I don’t want to be responsible for other people. I do my best when I only have to worry about me and my job. They can keep it. People are leaving left and right in the backroom. We almost don’t even need a team leader. I still believe that we can exist as a self-governing unit. We all know our jobs. We don’t need an appointed leader.
But yea, this TL is nuts, and her last day can’t come soon enough. My co-worker and I were singing this when we found out she was leaving…

…maybe it’ll be more appropriate when she punches out on her last day.

15 and 30 minute breaks are generally required by law depending on the length of your shift. For more information, and your state's specific laws, there should be a poster in your break room with the details. Those posters are also required by law.
I skipped or even delayed break in the past. One time I was going to inform my supervisor but she ignored me, so I delayed my break. Oh did my supervisor freak out. It was worth it though just to see her freak out. Although breaks and lunches are generally mandatory, although Target walks a very find line on if they'll let you take them or not. They'll let you take them as long as the company doesn't get in trouble.
Lunches by law can't be skipped due to state / federal regulations. But 15 minute breaks I've never seen a company that practically forces their people to take a break.
Hated breaks though when I took mine I shut off the walkie and often times forgot to turn it back on lol.
