    Roswell Target

    Hi, I’m a cashier at Target! D’:

Ok, so we got new card swipes a few weeks a go, and already none of them worked for half the day. We also have to do something new called Power Hour. It may take place at around 1 PM or 5 PM, when all cashiers and anyone else who can cashier jumps on a check lane so that when the store gets crowded, there wouldn’t be any long lines. It’s very helpful when employees with PDAs cashier because the customers don’t have to wait for fifteen minutes just for us to find out the price of an item our cash register doesn’t recognize. Just a few buttons pushed, and a beep from the PDAs scanner, and we have the price. Now why can’t cashiers have these? I have to walk all the way to Guest Services, or try catching the busy GSA (or whoever) and it almost always takes too long just to find the price. I could ask the customer to go look at the price tag, but I know they wouldn’t want to go all the way to the back of the store while holding up the line. Even if I did suspended their transaction, they would have to wait awhile to pay for their things because many people buy up to two carts of groceries. Either way, it’s a pain for both me and my customer.

    The Holidays are Coming.

The holidays are near! That means there will be crowds of guests shopping in our store and that means I’ll be asking about the REDcard more than I ever have before until my tongue dries up and crumbles out of my mouth! The customers will become snappier than they usually are because they are too busy trying to snatch what they want before the shelves are stripped bare and people will be extremely impatient jostling through packed isles and waiting in extremely long lines for who knows how long. I can’t wait to see how rudely I’ll be treated for asking about a card WHEN IT IS MY JOB TO DO SO. I’ll be complained about even more when I don’t give them a discount because their coupons are expired or because they need three items for a five dollar gift card instead of two. I can already think of the joyful mood everyone will be in if the cash register’s monitor freezes and randomly reboots because Target never bothers to fix its equipment as much as I complain and as much money they get from customers to afford to fix things. Think of all the transactions that will take forever to complete because the touch pads don’t work. I’d better memorize which cash registers work the best so I’ll have first dibs on them, because this is gonna get ugly. I’ve never worked before, but I bet this’ll happen.

My Conversion Rate Is Too Low. T-2443.

I can’t force someone to apply for the REDcard if they say no. I’ve been called to have a meeting with my manager before about my low selling rates and today my manager said that if my selling rate is low my the next quarter, I’ll be having a meeting with a GSTL and it’ll be “ugly”. The store company emphasizes the sell rates of the cards over the performance of its employees. I’m kind, joking, and polite toward my customers and will always help them in any way I can. I’m also one of the fastest cashiers, so my line is hardly ever long for a long time, plus I keep my lane clean and orderly and I usually come to work when I’m called in on my day offs. When I have nothing to do, I ask my Team Leader if there is anything extra I can do, so it’s not like I’m slacking around. I’ve asked my coworkers for advice on how to ask customers about the REDcard and have used their methods, even in in combos, but I still haven’t sold a card.

I was thinking of transferring to another store of the same company in another city because the employees never seem to ask every customer. In fact, I’ve never noticed them ask anyone! Then, again, I’ve heard that in order to transfer, one of the requirements is to have a good selling score, which I obviously do not have. I might as well quit.

Well, I’m off to cry. I just feel too down.
