Target Sucks - We Hate Target and We Know We're Not Alone.

am i rehireable?

I was a bench TL at my store “waiting for another TL to quit or get fired” to fill in. I interviewed around september 2013 and around January of 2014 my HR ETL and my Hardlines ETL pulled me in the office. They said due to the data breach, I won’t be able to get promoted for a while. All stores in the district need to cut leaders. By september of next year my store needs to cut 3 TLs and one ETL. Once they leave if other stores aren’t at where they need to be, they would just get transferred in. Pretty much there is no hope for me to move up. So I took initiative and applied at another place as part-time.

At my interview at my other job, I impressed my boss very well that they offered me a full-time supervisor position, so I took it because it was more money. At Target I went on LOA, to see if i liked the new job. Turns out the new job is awesome and very flexible. As i had to return to my LOA i was gonna ask my ETLs if it was ok to do both and work less hrs at Target because i now have a full-time job.

This wasn’t the first time I’ve had a 2nd job along with target so i didn’t think it was a big deal. 2 years before, i worked at a restaurant as a cook and target was ok with me working with them for min 2 days a week. When i seen my ETL, i had a weird vibe as if they were waiting for me to come in. She took me in with the HR ETL which i found weird because last time my TL, not ETL was the one who approved.

I talked to my ETL HR told her i got a full time job, right away she said we over heard u work at (grocery stores name) and its a competitor with us therefore u can’t work with us. After arguing we came to an agreement i won’t be able to work. She said i didn’t have to do a two weeks notice because before i went to LOA that pretty much counted. I asked her if i was rehire able? And if “in 10 years i want to go back to target will i be able to?” she said yeah you are fine and rehire able we gave each other a hug and that was it.

So i just want to know out of curiosity since she told me that, is that true? Like can target change me to non rehire able just because they feel like it even though they told me i am?

I think the obvious response is a question: why would you want to? Go be happy with the new company, and leave the misery behind.

Yes, you can get rehired….but you will start at the bottom of the totem pole again.

The only thing that stays the same is the your ID number - as for being one step away from a TL - you're back to regular team member at minimum wage.

But, like TargetSucks said - why would you want to got back?

I'm a SR. TL and that line about you not being able to work for a competitor is bullshit.

Target (and most companies) considers working for a competitor to be a conflict of interest, as described on the Integirty Hotline website:

"Any interest, financial or otherwise, any business or professional activity, prior or current employment, or any obligation which may interfere with the ability to objectively perform job duties and responsibilities or impair independence and objectivity."

Sounds like such a typical Target situation. Dude, your 2nd job is stone cold proof there's other places to work. Target suuuuuuuucks. Why worry about being rehire-able? Fuck em, leave em in the dust and ride on.
